How bored are you?[edit]
All the revisions on Help: Ask an account question since this edit have an account name / email address in them. I posted on the admin noticeboard a few days ago, but I think it got drowned out with the vandals and such (even I forgot). -- FreedomBound 12:41, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
- Kinda busy, kinda bored. Unfortunately, I cannot pull up that link. We have a nice, little content blocker at work. I have a few work-arounds for some sites, such as this one, but history and difference links are a different story. Hopefully it was the ones Jon got. I'll look at the link tonight when I get home. — Gares 14:54, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Appreciation[edit]
Gares - I appreciate the redirect set up on the Caoimhe page; I wasn't aware of a way to set it up myself, or if I even could. Thanks a bunch! :) Cailini Alainn 19:25, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Deletion policy[edit]
I thought that the {{delete}} tag allowed for 3 days prior to deletion. I tagged some improperly submitted suggestions this morning, and you deleted them this afternoon. This didn't really allow the users that submitted the suggestions any time to correct the mistakes they had made. While it's doubtful they would have, allowing them the opportunity to do so would have been nice. -- Wyn talk 00:15, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- Two cases, one IP and one registered user. Doubtful to hear from the IP again, regardless, if either wish to have their suggestions restored so that they may properly fix their mistakes, it won't take but a few seconds to honor their requests. — Gares 11:35, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- Ummm... Feedback:User/Ulterion/Amity, Feedback:User/Uiko Van Switzer/Dressing Room Feature?, Feedback:User/Hexicz/Hexicz, none of which were submitted by IP's, but by registered users, this also does not address the issue of the {{delete}} tag allowing 3 days for discussion prior to deletion. I'm sorry Gares, but you are taking it upon yourself to bypass policy. This is NOT an "at sysop discretion" issue in my opinion.
- "After at least 3 days have elapsed since the application of the deletion tag, the page can be deleted by any admin if the deletion is uncontested or a consensus is reached to delete."
- -- Wyn talk 12:40, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- I missed one of those, but actually Feedback:User/Uiko Van Switzer/Dressing Room Feature? was submitted by an IP. Why you are getting so upset is beyond me, as this has been practiced long before you registered. It's not a good practice in all cases, but for certain ones, yes it is. But, if you have any problems, please feel free to submit an RfA. Thank you. — Gares 14:40, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- With new/inexperienced users (or even experienced ones), it's best for them to see deletion tags and realise why their page is up for deletion (and be able to see the page content along with that). I can't see the deleted revisions, but I imagine the content was fine, just its implementation was incorrect - therefore, a page move by the user might have fixed it. I'd agree with Wyn that the policy is pretty clear here.
- Gares, I'm sure you're aware of the problem of hastily submitted recon requests and that user-user discussion is strongly advised (i.e. step 1). You're also a bureaucrat, so a recon wouldn't do anything. This is also just one circumstance, as far as I know, instead of a consistent pattern. But I doubt you meant "post an rfa, thank you!" seriously. -- pling 15:29, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- And I'm not "upset". I just think it's important, especially in a b-crat to follow the policies. Also, while the suggestion may have been submitted by an IP, it was in a registered user's space (something we have been pretty much ignoring). All of those simply needed some basic corrections to be ok. New users aren't going to know to go to the AN and request an undeletion, and it's just unfriendly. It wasn't hurting anything to leave it for the three days, and I wanted the users to have to opportunity to fix them. Had I wanted them to be deleted immediately, I would have tagged them as speedy. -- Wyn talk 15:41, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- It does look like you jumped the gun a bit, Gares. --JonTheMon 16:13, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- No, I was not serious, Brains. I don't mind Wyn coming to my talk page and voicing her concerns over actions I have taken. However, I do not use exclamation marks. I don't get that excited typing.
- I have taken Wyn's concern under advisement and it looks as though Jon has beat me to the restoration to ease this issue. While it is nice to use a deletion tag to warn users to fix their suggestions, I have to make a suggestion to post a comment on their talk page in addition. Seems to me that would be a much more friendly and better way to get their attention. As history stands, even with the deletion tags, these will most likely be deleted regardless. Seems an additional step of posting on their talk page would be much more helpful and noticeable. Feel free to post any other concerns, if any. — Gares 20:51, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- In most cases Gares, I do post a note on their talk pages to alert them to the problems, and provide advice as to how to correct them. This time I simply chose to add the delete tags as well, so they wouldn't fall through the cracks and not get tagged. Again, I wasn't upset, I was just pointing out that the deletion after being tagged for a few hours was a bit hasty. -- Wyn talk 03:15, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

potential Bcat action (if irc is that tied to the wiki[edit]
hello Gares, i *may* have a situation where the Bcats can actually be involved in wiki-politics! (yay?) today Auron Perma-Banned me on the irc, with no reason (i have logs) anything anyone can do? --The Scythe Has Fallen 00:06, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but IIRC the IRC channel is not connected to the wiki in any way, other than what it is called and the fact that many wiki users use it as a place to meet and chat. So if there is a problem on IRC, the bcats on the wiki can't do anything about it unless they are also in a position of authority on IRC. --Rainith 01:11, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- your not wrong, i dont think, however i would appreciate some course of action being taken. --The Scythe Has Fallen 01:56, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- You were banned because it is the Den of the High Profile Drama Llamas and they don't need a reason to do anything. Duhhhh Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 01:59, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- Scythe, that seems to make about as much sense as if you asked that action be taken against Auron (or anyone else for that matter) because he came to your house, knocked on your door and then punched you in the stomach when you opened said door. Wiki and IRC = apples and oranges. There is nothing to be done on the wiki, because nothing happened on the wiki. I'd say your choices are to either to try to get someone who is in a position of authority on IRC to do something about it (don't think Gares is, but if I'm wrong, boy will my face be red) or to forget about it and move on with life. --Rainith 02:43, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

If you get unbanned and don't want to be rebanned, the trick is to not be annoying. These are not accusations or attacks, this is general internet chatroom stuff. This section looks pretty annoying to me, don't behave like this in chat channels. Misery 15:11, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Games[edit]
When are you going to do/finish your MMO critique thing? I've been bored to death lately. I am looking for some hear/say on new games that I could try out. What is Perfect World like?
I will trade my own experience: The last MMO I played was Aika Online, I made it to level 40 before I gave up, it's another one of those "Lol pvp is the whole point" games. You grind forever, try to get the best equipment you can (this includes the typical weapon upgrade systems where you might break an item trying to upgrade it), and then participate in "raids" to capture buffs for your nation. The only thing that is really worth noting is that you get a little girl that follows you around everywhere and is completely cute. There is also a little "internet humor" thrown in here and there. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 02:21, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- so u plYed WoW, with a little girl? --The Scythe Has Fallen 03:17, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- WoW is actually a lot better... The plot is that you're some kind of chosen human, you make a pact with another type of fairy-lifeform in order to increase your power to fight the Super Ultimate Evil Guy. Your fairy joins you at level 10 or something and looks like a Navi rip-off at first, but then somehow grows up into a little girl from then on. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 05:53, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- I got to 50 in Aika, but the "expansion" was just so pathetic that I couldn't play any more. 10 million exp to level up? Fuck that. elix Omni 06:42, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- Just all depends on the xp curve of the game. Getting to 80 in WoW was easy and getting to 20 in GW was pathetic-easy. Asian based games are a lot harder though. Lots of grinding and very little quests, like Aion. Perfect World's got a decent balance, but can get rough around certain levels.

- Alice, I'll get around to it soon. I get busy in the summer time. Perfect World is fun though. It's a free-to-play game. You don't have to spend a dime, but spending a little money helps to make things more comfortable. Your starting 32 slot inventory can fill up quick, so buying a super inventory stone will make it 64 slots. The graphics are awesome compared to other pay-to-play MMOs I've played and the class balance could use some tweaking, but overall it's pretty good. Sins are still OP(no game can get the rogue/sin class right apparently), but classes fill their designed roles. Barbs are the ultimate tanks, however certain Blademaster builds can tank when barbs are scarce. Archers are the PvP snipers, Clerics are the healers, venos are the pullers, etc. The major thing I really don't like is no instanced PvP besides Territory Wars and you won't be able to do that unless you find a faction that does it and you are level 70+. But there is no incentive to PvP besides killing for the sake of killing. That's the gist of it. — Gares 12:02, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- I got to LV59 in Perfect World, as a spear-wielding blademaster. It was a fun game tbh, I played it for months. a UK friend of mine spent over 1000 pounds on the cash shop though. Hierograms were bullshit and ruined the game for me. elix Omni 13:25, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah. Glad I picked a PvE server cause I rarely need one. My barb has a heiro. He's lvl 71 and I don't want to die on a boss, but it's barely ticked. I don't really care to have one on my archer. Tried it, but it got burnt down too quick in TWs for me to spend another million on one and I'm not spending $3.00. — Gares 13:37, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- I've played several but I never got very far in any of them. Silkroad online I got to level 16 and quit, Rappelz to level 24 and quit, Soul of the Ultimate nation to level 18 and haven't decided to quit or not. I quit Dekkaron before I even started killing anything. All these free MMO's are blending together and feeling the same tbh. Haven't tried perfect world yet though, maybe I'll give it a whirl if i have some free time. --Lania18:35, 28 Jul 2010 (UTC)

- Yeah, Aika-wise, word on the street was that 50>51 was a miserable experience. But 1-40 maybe even 40-50 is not so bad... You can do it in less than a week if you're a dedicated player. Joining the underdog nation gets you double experience for killing things, but most of your experience comes from quests anyway. I was about to start my hover-bike mount quest chain but I woke up one morning and I was like "oh my god, what am I doing??" I don't know why I can't get that motivated to do anything in Guild Wars anymore.
- So what is this about hieroglyphs and dying at bosses in perfect world? And is the pve good enough to keep you interested and does the level grinding ever stop? Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 22:12, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe it's the level grind that makes me not want to play... Guildwars have spoiled me on levels since it's so easy to get to max level. A hoverbike mount sounds really fun though... --Lania22:38, 28 Jul 2010 (UTC)
- Guild Wars has replaced the typical level grind with titles. In specific I was working on vanq, which is basically level grinding, you're killing tons of crap, getting "experience", different mask same monster. Also I am a bit confused, does PW require 5gb or 14gb? It lists both... EDIT: Ok I'm going to try PW, is there only international or is there a local version? - I've played several but I never got very far in any of them. Silkroad online I got to level 16 and quit, Rappelz to level 24 and quit, Soul of the Ultimate nation to level 18 and haven't decided to quit or not. I quit Dekkaron before I even started killing anything. All these free MMO's are blending together and feeling the same tbh. Haven't tried perfect world yet though, maybe I'll give it a whirl if i have some free time. --Lania18:35, 28 Jul 2010 (UTC)
(Reset indent) Ok I started PW, it's alright, same old and tired quest-mania though. I'm only lvl 8 so I'll have to wait and see Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 07:24, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- Meetings all afternoon yesterday. Don't worry about hieros (called charms in PWI). Um, about the bosses, don't really know what to say and I don't want to sound sarcastic. Bosses hit hard and players can die. A pug cleric might not be that good, so I equip a heiro just in case. With one equipped, if your health drops below 50%, it ticks and fills it back up to 100%. Just a safe guard cause if the tank dies, it's usually a wipe.
- I don't think you will ever find a MMO that won't have some quest grind in it. It's a rule in MMO making 101. They are better though than just having to grind mobs to level and you get a decent amount of gold, xp, and spirit from turning them in. Depending on your class, quests can go pretty fast and it doesn't take much to rocket up in level. — Gares 11:58, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- Keep in mind that no one has ever reached the level cap in Perfect World. elix Omni 13:55, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- If you are talking about the International version's cap of 105, it takes like 1.5 billion xp to reach. I've partied with a 102 barb, but that's the highest I've seen. I think the Chinese version's cap is 140. Now that would be insane. — Gares 14:33, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- Wow... how do people grind like that? Nothing better to do? They must have a sad sad life *Thinks of the south park WOW episide*. --Lania17:56, 29 Jul 2010 (UTC)
- Back when I played PWI with RageQuit (from closed beta onward, whenever that was), some of the guys had played on the Malaysian servers. - I'm one of those people that actually like to grind, at least for bit. I remember grinding levels back when Final Fantasy I came out on the NES. I can spend about an hour or two straight grinding if I have the time, but I don't go crazy. I remember two guys from my Aion legion went over 2 days straight grinding. Now that is sad and scary. One of them burnt out and quit a few weeks after he hit 50. *rolls eyes* — Gares 19:01, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- I'd level grind in the Bahmut cave on the moon as well as the first few floors of the last dungeon for FF4 to get my levels up before facing Zemus. Then in FF6 there was that forest with the dragons and the brontosaurus, if you killed enough brontos they'd drop the hair pin relic that let you cast 2 spells per turn. I ended up with 4 of them once--it was so cheating. It wasn't horrible or anything and wasn't something I'd complain about, I'd go there every so often, learn some spells, do something else, go back. Rinse repeat. With RoM I kill everything I see and take all the quests so it wasn't terrible getting to 50-52. Its all in how you time manage I guess.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* 20:10, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

- On the SNES version or the emulator you can cheat 2 ways...cast Vanish+X-Zone (the fixed this on the GB advance version) and almost all the enemies will die from a bug with these 2 spells. The other is to get the hair pin relic and cast Ultima 2x per party member. It will roll Kefka very fast.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* 02:06, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- No, those dinos dropped the economizer which reduced MP cost to 1. The double-cast relic came from the top of the mage tower. -Auron 02:27, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Favorites vs Currently Playing[edit]
Not playing DQ9? I am shocked and appalled. - Tanetris 20:03, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- I'm appalled enough for the both of us. Only have a PS3 and Wii in the console department. Probably won't ever get a DS. It hasn't been that bad until a few years ago when Square-Enix decided to port games solely on certain systems. I remember back when popular games actually were actually released on the console first and then considered for the handheld. Maybe it'll be re-released or I'll find a ROM for it. — Gares 20:46, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- You really need to get a 360 Gares, I've already got Skuld, Biro and Tanaric on my friends list, we could have a GuildWiki party on there with you... ;) I've got a PS3 too if you want to find me on there, but really I just use it as a Blu-ray player, I've played all of two games on it in the last 3 or so years... it was a great investment. :/ --Rainith 21:06, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- And you call yourself a fan. I got a DS specifically for DQ9 (used DS Lite, only $100 from Gamestop), and I do not regret the purchase. It's actually extremely well implemented on the DS, making excellent use of both the dual screens and the wireless functions, and mostly ignoring the touchscreen (you can use the touchscreen to move and to select menu items (requires double-click so you don't accidentally screw yourself, for both the good and ill of that), but there isn't a single thing that requires the touchscreen). - Tanetris 01:17, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- Rainith, that is major oldschool wiki. Thought Baxter fell off the edge of the earth. But I'm almost right there with ya with the PS3. I bought it just for FF13 and Star Ocean. I should have got the 360 back then instead of the PS3, but I wasn't sure if FF13 was going to come out on it.
- Tanetris, I probably will end up caving in and getting the DS for DQ9. I do it with every other system. If I remember right, it has some FF games exclusive to it too. But I better hurry up if I'm going to do it, cause I'll be playing GW2 when it comes out. — Gares 14:38, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your time[edit]
It's sad to see someone I considered one of our model users eventually drifting off due to other things occupying their time, even if that is somewhat the natural way of things. Bioware[edit]
Noticed you're a bioware fan (but not KOTOR??!?!?!). Gonna give TOR a shot in the spring? --Jake04:09, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
- Crazy, I know. I've got the first KOTOR on XBox, but it didn't wow me. I didn't play SWG, so I probably will try out TOR just to see what a SW MMO feels like. — Gares 13:23, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
- KOTOR for xbox was really not all that great. IT was outstanding on PC though. It's a lot less impressive now than it used to be (games have improved vastly in the couple of years since it launched) but it was mindblowing the first time you played it. I played SWG and it looks like the two are not going to be all that similar (I could go into a long rant about how the pre-9 version of SWG was the ideal model for pve gaming and how the current p[ost-NGE state is shit, but i don't think you really care). TOR's using the tried-and-true trinity method for PvE and given that it's bioware the actual storyline content will be outstanding. I think it'll be a really solid game, but nothing new or revolutionary. --Jake 13:49, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
