Fort Aspenwood Leeching

Since the recent updates to faction in Cantha FA has been taken over again by leeching. Because of the small size of the parties and randomness of the arena, 6 consistent leechers can easily ruin the arena. They are rarely reported enough to get a penalty because people don't know how to use the report function or do know, but know no-one else will report and will get a penalty themselves. One leecher can go for hours before they get enough reports to cause them to sit out, and if they do they will just enter again - probably bots. It seems the leechers are now doing it for Z Key faction as well as luxon faction. 58.106.46.103 17:33, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Please see the topic on this very matter at the top of the page. No need to start a new one. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 19:29, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
Well... any form of feedback about your opinion is welcome. and it could go to F.A.Q. and maybe even solved. Or not? Do you like leechers who can get goodies by just doing nothing while ruining others' fun (uber super extremely rare case that only a frustrated and annoyed player would assume)? Cold as Ice Alternate

Cold as Ice Alternate.I was wondering if it would be possible to get an alternate to cold as ice quest.I have attempted this over 30 times now always abonding it.I was thinking of alternate quest that takes place outside with 8 person party Agedepressed over Guild Wars January 13 09 5:50 UTC

There's strategies for every single profession which work just fine. The only ones who have an undue hardship are Paragons, and that is largely because they were never meant to be played solo anyway. Vili User talk:Vili 02:11, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
The 1v1 quests are ridiculously terribly designed. I can't stress how bad the design is when the entire game (and indeed, some entire professions) are based on playing with a party, then all of a sudden you have to 1v1 a level 28 boss with unlimited energy that fastcasts spirits and renews them as soon as they drop.
Aside from the 1v1 quests really needing to be removed from the game, there are options for any class to beat it - you just have to abuse bad AI and overpowered PvE skills. Ebon Sniper and Signet of Infection, for example, go rather well together - for a mere 10 energy you inflict bleeding and disease, and you can run around outside of spirit range as the boss degens. When bleeding and disease wear off, you run back into range and cast both skills again. Repeat until the boss dies. That leaves 6 skills for self-preservation (healing skills, run buffs, defensive stances, interrupts, whatever). Hope that helps. -Auron 02:34, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
Go with what Auran said. Degen the damn thing with PvE-only skills, they have gutted the challenge of that quest, and I do agree with Auran comments as well on the quest design. For giggles you could also go a ranger secondary and use a long ranged bow and apply poison to boot 118.92.167.172 02:46, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
And to top it off, it *is* listed as a master difficulty quest. 24.188.207.20 06:56, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
The whole 'master' difficulty quest line is warped. 118.92.167.172 08:31, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
And yet, Snowman's Lair is marked as master difficulty, and yet even in HM it is much easier than many NM quests. Susan 02:19, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Killing the Griffon is soooo much easier than killing that super Overpowered Rabid Bear now days (Spoiler Alert : "Fighting" it is pointless, just H4XX0RZ it by taking degen, EE, and something to disable Troll Ungent). If any one solo quest needs to be re-evaluated, it's not the Cold as Ice one. ...Especially since the rest of the solo quests are all tagged normal Difficulty but the C-a-I is [Master] Diff--ilr 04:24, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

I think the quest is doable with the right build. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 03:42, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Does Shadow Damage still exist?

At first, thanks for your answer, Lisey :)
That means Shadow damage exists and could theoretically differ from regular untyped damage if there would be something that deals with it, right? Yet it's really strange that the concise description doesn't mention it then. You said James meant there was such a thing as Shadow Damage. Does that mean it doesn't exist any longer these days? I'm possibly hard of understanding, excuse me if these questions were intended to be solved with your answer already. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 10:36, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

how i read it there is shadow damage its just is more generic. so unlike holy damage which is armor ignoring and dose dubble damage to undead, shadow damage just dose damage and dost have any other modifier. 75.165.113.53 11:42, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
That's not how damage types work. Backsword 09:23, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
English issue here. "was" here refers to she having asked in the past, not that the answer she got was in the past. Backsword 09:23, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
ok. thanks for solving that comprehension problem, Backsword. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 08:29, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Assuming that I was using the correct ID for Shadow Damage (which I am not SURE of), my searches show that Shadow Damage does still exist on a handful of skills. However, the point James was making is that nothing in the game cares about Shadow Damage (eg undead care about holy damage) so it might as well be considered generic magic damage in it's effect. Does that make sense to you? - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 02:22, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Hall of Monuments

Its been over 6 months since the announcement of the Account Wide option of the HoM, we've had the (as I deem it superficial) Tormented Weapons upgrade already. Any ETA on how long it will be before we get to see an Account Wide option? 118.92.167.172 19:36, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

I heard a rumor that this would happen in Q2 2009 (around May). But you know about rumors, who knows if that's true. 24.188.207.20 06:47, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, it would make sense going by Arenanet-time. Say something, 9-12months later they actually do it. 118.92.167.172 08:35, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Of course, maybe instead of posting ranting comments you could just read through some of linsey's archives or even her temporary archive to see that she has answered this question repeatedly already. In that she has said time and time again that she can not give us an ETA however she has also said VERY recently that she can not tell us how the account wide option is going to operate as she does not yet know as its not far enough along in development to give that answer, thus it looks like it might still be a far way away from that answer. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 09:34, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
And they had a very good reason to let we know about this as soon as possible. Knowing that the HoM will become account based allows people to play with multiple characters more freely, not to mention buy Tormented Weapons for the characters who will use them as opposed to buying all for a single character, and etc. When the change itself will be made matters very little - the second impact of the change (other than allowing people to play with any character) will be truly felt only on GW2. All this has already been said, you would have found those answers if you had looked at the archives. Please do some more research next time. Erasculio 13:26, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Erasculio and Salome I say this was massive amounts of glee: get off your high bloody horses. ^_^ I posted my original question and 1 day later I get my answer (check the developer update), perhaps before jumping up and down on someone you wait before posting, to loosely quote Regina "things change". Ironically Arenanet comes in true to form almost 9 months (or there abouts) from the initial info release the bun will come out of the oven. I thank you very much. 118.92.167.172 19:16, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Errr...surely instead of it rendering our answers pointless, which I might add still stand, it more renders your question pointless. As if you had of just waited 24 hours you would have found out the ETA with no need for your QQ-ing post. It simply proves that anet will release information when they are good and ready, despite the number of posts they get demanding answers. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 20:04, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Whatever makes you feel validated there, Salome, whatever makes you feel validated. The question was answered and therefore I am happy. Linsey, my question is answered this can be immediately moved. ^_^ Aba Malatu 20:56, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Well clearly they will have some new news about the hom changes before the end of April here is my sorce http://www.guildwars.com/gameplay/developer_updates/coming_attractions.php 75.165.125.117 22:13, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Yep, I saw that here in today's ArenaNet:Developer updates Excuse Me Will I Ignore You In Advance 22:20, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Well the content will come in april and a storage upgrade to while they said there servers were full. What I think is 1APRIL FOOLSDAY. We get HoM update but no storage update but we get gw2 beta instead. Atleast thats what i hope. ^^ Death Slighertalk: Death Sligher 22:40, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

God, I hope no. They claimed they would have the GW2 beta closer to release this time than with GW1, and if they release GW2 this year, they are going to spend less time developing it than any big company has used to develop successful MMORPGs these last years. Waiting for a fully polished game is better than having a rushed, with little content, and filled with bugs game. Erasculio 22:46, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Last time I checked, jokes for April fools start and end on April fools - except the good ones, must be Linsey's joke. ^_^ On a more serious mood, I agree with Erasculio that I hope that GW2 comes out later rather than sooner, more chance for more initial content and fewer bugs. Of course this depends on how fast Anet works and how many bugs show up at first. However, while I hope the game to be later, I hope some more info comes out sooner rather than later. Feed my brain please Anet! -- Konig Des Todes 22:51, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
This is a few months early for an April Fool's joke. Yes, storage improvements really are coming. Yes, account-based changes are coming. There are always hurdles to jump over with big changes like these and we have been working very hard to get over them. As things progress, we will be able to reveal more but for now just enjoy how awesome it is that we were able to get over some of those hurdles and don't worry so much about the rest. Oh and folks, please play nice on my talk. All that snippy bickering gives me a headache. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 22:58, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
People complain about the Live Team not listening to them and not doing what they promised (not true, but that is what they complain about). The Live Team then listens to them and does what is promised, and people complain even more? HUH? I don't get it. 145.94.74.23 09:52, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
People just like to complain. Show me a fan of Guild Wars who loves to play every day and I'll show you a person who's bitched about how awful the game is and how incompetent the developers are. --Mme. User Mme. Donelle sig.jpgDonelle 12:08, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
I must be odd then.I've played this game for 3 years and racked up over 7000 hours on the game and I still love it and I've never really had any complaints about the developers (I've had a few issues with support etc... but not the devs). I've suggested improvements or brought to their attention things which didn't seem to work right but aside from that I've never actually complained about the game as a whole. I will admit that gw1 after all this time is getting a tad on the repetitive side for me but then their is no other game in the world that i have ever played, where you can play it for 7000 hours and it not get at least a bit on the repetitive side. considering at the bare minimum I could have invested only £150 to play for this long then that equals roughly 2p for every hour of play. Even i I take into account how much I have actually invested in this game with my numerous accounts and extra char slots and the like it still averages out at only about 10p for every hour of play. Thus still the best value for money I've ever had from any game. :) -- Salome User salome sig2.png 15:14, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
I think most people would say they enjoy the game as a whole. Complainers do genuinely love the game, I think -- they're just impatient and/or pessimistic, so they look on all the mistakes (or perceived mistakes) that ANet have made and start to worry that the game will be ruined if ANet dare touch it again. I prefer to take the view that ANet is made up of humans who are only capable of human feats, so I ignore their mistakes and instead keep an eye on improvements, of which there are many. --Mme. Deldrimor armor

will the Deldrimor armor sets ever be completed and/or be able to be added to the hom because most of them are full sets (ie enough that the hom would accept it on another set.) and the ones that are missing parts are just the arm parts and i think the hom should maybe make it so if the set dost have the arm guard or head it would except it? ( i realize after i thought this out that this would permit people to add there mix mach set of armor and add there dragon gantlets ect.)75.172.46.207 11:09, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

afaik linsey don't want to add more stuff to the hom as it is, and art is pretty hard to get even as only a pair of re-skinned gloves. --78.82.74.173 11:14, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
i know but its like that set is almost complete and your paying the normal price for an elite set so maybe some light could be shead on the topic?75.172.46.207 11:19, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
The Deldrimor armor set has always been weird for me. It's an expensive set, falling within the realm of what a lot of us would call the the Elite / Prestige sets, yet it contains uneven set pieces for the varying professions: several only have 3 pieces required, others have 4.
It would have been nice to be considered a set worthy of going HoM, considering it's the only 'standard' set that has such a massive cost. Standard meaning a set that can't go into the HoM. As far as I know most non-HoM mountable armor is 1K a piece, the only expection is, of course, this set.
This, in my eyes, has been the: "Either we're too lazy" or "We didn't have time to finish" set. Harsh, yes, but it was and is, yet another example of EoTN that broke away from the standard model of Guild Wars - in this case in regards to the armor - and has caused much confusion.
This topic has been brought up before, I believe, but searching through achieves is something I don't want to spend my morning doing. 000.00.00.00 19:10, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
We have never done anything a certain way because we were "too lazy" to do it some other way. We are not a lazy company. What other companies do you know of that has accomplished as much as ArenaNet has in as short a time as we have for a non-p2p game? Suggesting that we were "too lazy" to do anything is just rude.
Armor sets are extremely expensive to make as I have already said in my FAQ. The armor pieces sold by the Deldrimor Dwarves were originally intended to be "one-off" pieces which could be mixed with other sets. That's why they aren't named "Deldrimor Leggings" etc. There are a number of reasons why it didn't end up coming out the way we may have originally intended and that has caused some confusion in the community. Since they weren't intended to be a "set", it is unfortunate that people may feel it is an incomplete set needing to be "finished" but I don't foresee us investing the resources needing to fill them out into complete sets. =/ User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 00:14, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
What is a shame though linsey is that all the advertising for GWEN said 40 new armour SETS, this however isn't a set as you just said, which therefore means the advertising was somewhat misleading. I'm not agreeing with 000, as I don't think it was a case of being lazy as I don;t think anet is in the business of being lazy, however I do think as it stands all that is currently missing is 5 pairs of gloves (Ran, Rit, Mes, Derv and Para). I personally don't know how long it would take to reskin 5 existing sets of gloves to match the deldrimor sets, and it might not be viable, however I think it might be worth it as I know alot of the community base is confused by that set and I've heard many people say they would love to own it but find it pointless due to it not being hom-able. Also the answer we have gotten about deldrimor armour pieces being intended to be "mixed and matched" with other sets doesn't make much sense, as even if they were turned into a coherent HoM-able set, we could still mix and match the individual pieces if we so wished, like at the mo I mix and match my luxon and kurzick armour together, even though they are actual unique sets. However as I said, I don't know how much work goes into reskinning 5 sets of gloves (although really its only 4 sets, as mes gloves all look the same ;D). If it were done though, I'm sure it would be a very popular change with the community. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 00:45, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
"I've heard many people say they would love to own it but find it pointless due to it not being hom-able", while unfortunate and a sentiment felt by many people, it's pretty stupid. People bought elite armor before the HoM and we don't even know what the HoM will do yet. I don't know why people can't see the deldrimor gear as the exact equivalent of chaos gloves or a blindfold. Misery 00:52, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
I agree mis, but you see it to an even more odd extent with mini-pets. Pre GW:EN the rare minipets traded hands for high sums of money, just so peeps could run about with them, now you can get those same pets for a fraction of the price if they just happen to be dedicated. It is an oddity but the community is what it is. Also the way in which one gains deldrimor armour, the price of it and the crafting of it does seem to suggest that it follows the pattern established by the other armour sets in GWEN. Thus if Anet had of wanted to establish its uniqueness as just pieces, they really should have established a different way to acquire them, either by making them cost substantially less or by making it so you dont need rank 5 in the deldrmor title. So really anet are kinda responsible for the confusion caused by this. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 00:57, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Sure, let's blame Anet for another misinterpetation by players. 145.94.74.23 07:40, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Guild Wars icon source

Hi Linsey, i went through your eight posting rules, and apparently here's the right place for posting this issue, so i'll go ahead:
I am almost certain of this one, yet i want to assure myself (and show others that don't believe me, therefore serving as some kind of proof) that all icons used within Guild Wars are self-made by employees, and none of them comes from an open image database or something similar. Am i correct? I'm asking since i noticed something i suspect to be some kind of copyright infringement, concerning a few of these icons which were being used somewhere else, presumably without Anet's agreement. It was stated that this likely happened since both Guild Wars and the other one used the same image database, although there's of course nothing that might have been coincidentally being shared if Guild Wars icons are unique, separately created images. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 19:47, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

BAMPH! once used an skill icon that was not made by ANet; it was Trogdor. When people started digging through the GW.dat, ANet changed the icon so that it was no longer in the GW.dat. As they did that back then, I don't think there are other copyright problems left (or they would probably have been changed before). poke | talk 19:54, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
It's hard for me to make a call on that without seeing the other place that you are referencing... - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 23:20, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Oh right poke, i didn't remeber the BAMPH! icon^^ But i guess that was rather an exception, and concluding Anet's behaviour on that case i guess that they surely wouldn't use icons from anther source - especially for weapons, which are designed by them anyways.
Linsey, thanks for your fast reply. Yet i don't urgently want to publish the entire thing. I assume that the accordant site wouldn't get any trouble with Anet if i give you the image links via personal message? It's really not a big deal i guess (three tiny 15x20px icons), yet i want to encourage them to replace those icons.
(I started a thread in the Criticism area of their official discussion board, but it got closed for mentioned assertions by one of the moderators after a short time, therefore i want to show this mod that Guild Wars isn't in need of grabbing icons from image databases. Maybe i should rather directly contact the accordant people responsible for the icons, yet the thread got many hits and answers while it was open, therefore i think they'd notice it if it stayed open.) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 01:32, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
You know what, Zerpha? I actually think this kind of issue is better being brought to Regina. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 07:08, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
alright. should i tell her everything again or just move this section? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 09:27, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Considering the volume of traffic on this page and the limited time Linsey has to answer questions, going to have to go ahead and suggest you use your own initiative there and go with what you think is best. Misery 12:04, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
I think you should have a look at this thread on guild wars guru (link starts at page 3, which is where the thread becomes relevant to this discussion). As you can see, quite a few of the icons are based (perhaps accidentally, perhaps intentionally) on real world images. As for the legality of doing so...well, IANAL. --Seventh 07:37, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Hero Battles

Hi Linsey. I usually bothered Izzy when it comes to asking for changes to Hero Battles, but seeing how he's working nearly full-time on GW2 now I think you're basically the only person that can really comment on the matter. Hero Battles suffered from a lot of problems when it was first introduced and unfortunately most of those still remain today because the format never got the attention it needed. After the AI update last year (nice work from Joe there btw), the hero AI skill usage made significant progress. Unfortunately this actually had more effect on other PvP formats than it had on Hero Battles. This is simply because the Hero Battle mechanics itself are imbalanced and really prevent the format from changing. Essentially the problem with the format is that the benefits the 4 shrines on each map give to your team are too strong, forcing people to split their entire team over the map since that's the only viable tactic. Eventually this had lead to people using totally broken gimmicks that exploit this imbalance, such as builds using multiple heroes with Recall/Shadow Meld that simply camp shrines and don't attack at all. Like I told Andrew Patrick when he was still the PvP Community Manager, even if Anet couldn't do a complete overhaul there were still a lot of small changes that could gradually have improved the format. Unfortunately no changes were ever made so the last update the format received was somewhere in the beginning of 2007. We were always told changes were being considered and Anet was open to suggestions, but we would have to wait since their projects were taking up too much time (first because of EotN, now because of GW2). Looking at the rather impressive changes the GW 1 Live Team has managed to introduce so far, I really think changes to HB wouldn't take nearly that much effort. Even a simple change such as slowing down the morale meter could have a positive impact on the game. I'm running a small survey on the GW guru forum to get people's opinion on various problems with the format, but of course this is only going to be meaningful if Anet can spare some of its development time on GW 1 to finally introduce some changes. So my question is if this is still a possibility and/or if there's something the HB community can do to convince Anet to update the format? --Draikin 02:30, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

personally i hate hero battles because of how broken they are, and because they are not really pvp there more 1v1vheros. i would much rather see a sealed deck arena....75.172.46.207 03:24, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
The Live Team would really like to give HvH some love, Joe talks about it all the time since he was the one who coded the format. HvH "love" is on our list of things to do this year, and we are really hoping that we are able to get to it. If you are up to it, you could compile feedback for me to keep in mind when I get the chance to turn my eyes that way. As long as it is coherent and not heinously long or cluttered with discussion. :D User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 19:14, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the response Linsey, it's good to hear there's still a chance that we'll see some changes. I'll do my best to compile information that you can actually use :) --Draikin 21:30, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Trade Improvements

I know from reading the FAQ that an actual auction house is out of the question, but are any improvements being considered for the current trade listing system? For instance, the biggest change that I would like to see is separate tabs for buying and selling. Would this be possible to implement? Rapskallyon 08:03, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Yes this seems like some thing that would be super easy to change and put in the game +1 to this75.172.46.207 08:25, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
I believe linsey said once that the chat system was a bit tricky and that changes to it were not high on the priority list, so I doubt this would be implemented, although it is a good idea. (Correct me if I'm wrong, I can't find the post I'm talking about in the archives) Terra 11:45, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
I believe Terra is correct with the chat system. Guild Recruiting - ie spamming - in Local can get really bad and it was asked if a new channel could be made for such a thing, Linsey said the chat system was a tricky thing and probably wouldn't be looked into. 000.00.00.00 03:21, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
i well my thought was that it would still have the trade chat but the party search window would have buy and sell as two of the different drop downs/filters. so people wanting to buy things would be able to put there add there. and people selling would be able to put there add in the selling section. 75.172.46.207 06:41, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Exactly. Just as the current system recognizes a difference between "LFG" and "WTB", the coding should already be in place to separate "WTB" and "WTS" into two different headings in the Party Search window. Would it really affect the chat system at all? Rapskallyon 07:37, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
yea excatly the change would be very minor all it would do is make it so wtb would go to the buy and the wts would go to the sell and the wtt would go to the trade window. and that change how ever small it is would make the hole buying and selling system much much easier imo the only other thing i could think of is making it so you could open more then one party search window.75.172.46.207 11:27, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Right now, I don't really want to get into a discussion on specific things we could do to improve trade especially since I'm not a programmer and can't accurately gauge feasibility, but I will say that trade improvements as a topic comes up in discussion amongst the Live Team all the time. Weekly, if not daily.
Try not to make any kind of judgments on whether a change to the game would be "very minor" to implement when you have very little knowledge of the code base. From my observations, when someone says that, it's almost always in reference to something that seems easy when you say the words, but actually making it happen in code is a totally different story. Those kinds of misconceptions almost always lead to trouble. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 19:24, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Out of curiousity, are changes/improvements to the trade system going to be part of 1 of this years GW1 content updates?

I would love for them to be, but I just don't know at this time. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 21:37, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

JQ bots

The following characters are pvp characters, have a single class (with one exception), use the default skill bar of a pvp character of that class (Charge!, sever artery, healing signet for warriors, for example), only use the yellow portal, only target the nearest enemy, never take evasive action, never speak, and start and stop moving randomly. I believe they are bots, and I am tired of getting dishonorable for reporting them as leechers.

I agree with some of these names because I saw them too. (86.82.36.54 14:59, 2 March 2009 (UTC)).

So /report in-game them as bots. Support handles this, not Linsey. - Tanetris 15:06, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
I think this is something that falls under Gaile Gray's jurisdiction as well. Misery 15:10, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Problem is that I've been killing "gray men" for almost a week now. In every 3rd match he runs into my barbed trap and degens to death. Over and over again he gets reported. Keep the free points comming I'd say but I'd say it's frustrating to have such bots on your team. (Ate of DK 16:35, 2 March 2009 (UTC)).

I totally understand your frustration, but I don't get involved in issues like this. You should take this to Gaile. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 18:18, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Lindsey is this helpful info? and will we see more bans because i will gladly right down names and post on Gaile's bot watch page but if its just a waste of my time then why should i bother right? i only ask because its very clear that reporting them is only leading to me getting dishonor wrongly, and that the bots are still in JQ.75.172.46.207 02:47, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
If they're bots, report them as "Botting" (not as "Leeching"). Leechers gets no reward. Bots get banned.
Gaile's Botwatch page could help her track down these pests faster. --NIN37 03:47, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
i know your trying to be helpful and i do report them but seeing as i get dishonor for it i have stopped. also that comment wast directed at Lindsey last time i checked not nin3775.172.46.207 05:29, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Honestly, I'm not sure if it is helpful or not. You should really ask Gaile since this kind of stuff is part of her job. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 05:35, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Errr... I was trying to say that you got "dishonor points" because you've been submitting "leeching reports" with less than 1/3 of your party supporting you (if you read Report you'll see it would be needed at least half of the team reporting the same player to actually prevent the leecher from getting any points at that match; when over half of your team is being AFK/running in circles/hiding behind NPC/doing absolutely nothing, there's no point on reporting them as leechers).
If you were using "botting reports", you would not need 1/3 of party reporting the same individuals, and would not get "dishonor points" for not having teammates supporting your reports.
Oh, well, if you're not open to suggestion, I won't bother you anymore. Peace. --NIN37 06:16, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
I am not Stupid. i know what all the report functions do. and have redirected my question to gaile.75.172.46.207 11:44, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Title bug?

I think I found a minor bug with the title menu. I have wisdom and treasure hunter maxed for ages and today I was Identing some golds with the menu opened. I saw how both titles changed places with each other. This shouldn't be I think because one is clearly higher than the other. See the screenshot links I added if you don't understand, please.

It's nothing that endangers the games balance. But I still think it's weird and wanted to let you know. Maybe you have a good explanation for it. :P (Ate of DK 16:32, 2 March 2009 (UTC)).

Funny stuff, never noticed it. Yet, I haven't maxes either TH or Wisdom ^^ --Arduinna talk 17:05, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Not all that much of a bug, and it's a code bug at that. You should be reporting bugs on the bug pages now. rotscale

i think he needs a quest seiries, somethign mroe then just the bow, hes tougher then the end bosses, hes one of the toughest monstes in the game and i and alot of others who like the monster would love to see a quest chain or small dungeon with a little story put in about him. --Lord randy taylor 01:44, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Randy although I appreciate your feelings on this issue, you have already raised this debate on Gaile's page. Raising it again on another anet employee's page, just fragments the discussion. Also as stated on Gaile's page, what one considers hard is highly subjective. Personally I absolutely hate Dzagonur Bastion and the Eternal Grove missions as I find both of these much harder than the end missions in each campaign. (I think its something to do with the protection element of them, be that tree singers of cannons). However on the other hand, due to the party build I use, I find killing Rotscale relatively easy. Either way the ease or difficulty I personally experience in completing a task should not influence the direct rewards to the community at large for completing that task. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a little extra backstory put into Rotscale, as he is a very interesting enemy lore wise, but beyond this I personally think he's fine. Although admittedly I wouldn't mind a wee tweak of the stats of his bow so that it's more universal in it's application or even a change from the bow being Green, to it being an inscribable gold so that we can adapt the bow to our own needs, as it has a great skin! *cough perfect sundering/fortitude mods cough* -- Salome User salome sig2.png 02:58, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
I agree with the split of argument, and the opinion-ness of "difficulty" (as some people still find Hard Mode easy without consets or overpowered PvE-only skills); however, I would love to see not only a quest/quest chain for Rotscale (maybe one that requires being level 20 and starts from Ascalon with the Stone Summit to go with the beta lore of Rotscale), but also would love to see more hard bosses, and not things just like the *.O.X.'s which are mainly hard due to their extremely high health. Add in more Rotscale/Kepkhet encounters, as those two bosses I think are the hardest of any other boss. Not because of just the boss, but the area. And adding these new bosses would be a way to kill things like Raptor farming. @Salome, I think the bow mods are perfect mods, poisonous adds perfectly to any condition ranger, as they would use poisoning skills like Poison Tip Signet or Apply Poison. I wouldn't mind adding/changing to a gold inscribable version though. Just another opinionated thing where people disagree. His bow is, imo, the best of all green bows. -- Azazel The Assassin\talk 17:36, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

4th year birthday

It happens every year, a topic about what people expect of this years birthday and Anet asking people about suggestions. Well April is comming soon so a lot of toons will get a year older. As for me, playing Guild Wars for more than 4 years now (including the beta tests that is) and April 26th/27th is my 4th birthday, Yee for me! I've been a real supporter of all the dissicious Anet made over the years, some bit curious but in the end it all turned okay. Something I'm still a bit confused about is the way the birthday of the toons is celebrated, namely the reward. We have been getting rewarded with a lot of mini's now and my complete storage turned into a zoo. I think, but correct me if I'm wrong that this problem will be corrected in the next big update which is also in April. Mini's are all cool and stuff but I don't feel that it makes my 4 year old toon really stand out in the crowd. Mini's can be bought by everyone with enough gold so the 4 year olds aren't that unique. Yes, you have the mini before others and can make a lot of money out of them, it even keeps the economy going. But me personally, I can't care one bit about gold, never did, never was. I'm a collector of stuff, precious or worthless, I do it for the personal achievement.

So my question is, is there a way (with low developer costs offcoarse) to make the elderly a bit more unique? I always thought having a title with the age would be cool and never maxable (but you allready said, no new titles to be expected), a special emote like cake with number above head or just number(this requires new artwork so not likely), a new mini but customised(needs coding and would need to be a real cool/special one). You might get the feeling, something non tradeable I'm asking for. A well, otherwise I'll just show off with divine aura (which sort of tells you're old).

Thanks for all the work you and your team are doing at the moment and doing a fine job I want to add.NexceveN 09:11, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Don't newbies already whine heaps about Festival hat that will no longer be available for those who did not get them? :P --NIN37 12:06, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
But on the other hand...when you miss one festival due too illness, holliday, school, work or what ever it's a pitty not to have all of those nice festival hats...even though we, the from the beta till now players who don't care about economics, just would like some recognition...that's in my opinion not too much to ask? That's why i also wanna stress out that, as an addition to this nice idea of nexceven, PVE oriented guilds who not have the intention to participate in PVP/GVG also would like to have a way to show that we are some kind of "elite" guild...heh heh 4 years and a trim in some kind of fashion way would be nice. And that's something which is easliy done due to the fact that in some postings it was said that it's done by hand. SQL FTW btw and it's automated. Just an idea... Didis 20:34, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Well I agree with Nexceven and Didis mini's are to common and people with money can buy them. Thats why it isnt special if you are 4years old. I hope we get something different this time. But I guess we will get 20new minipets again... 145.53.242.142 21:33, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
I'm not going to comment on 4th year birthday presents, but I just wanted to note that I don't think cape trims are practical since that is a guild achievement not a character one and the birthday presents are character based. We do use SQL to run our queries and that is how I get the information for who gets what trims each month. The actual handling out of trims needs to be done by hand in game. So if you ever seen the character "Linsey Gives Trims", that is what I am doing. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 21:50, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
If trims are a guild achievement, then perhaps a special trim for guilds that have been around for a long time. Even if it's only signifying guilds that have been around three or four years, rather than giving one to every guild that reaches one year. Gives something special to the guilds that have stuck around for so long.--Pyron Sy 22:11, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Fourth-year miniatures will be worth a fortune, so you can sell them off and use that money to buy yourself other things which do make you stand out. Like a panda or something. Vili User talk:Vili 22:47, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
There isn't any precedence for reward guilds like that, I'm not sure if I want to sign us up for that work. I don't know what kind of code would be involved in tracking a guild's age, I'm pretty sure we don't have a system for it right now so we would have to build one which takes time and in the end I would still have to give out trims by hand which means I would need to be notified whenever a trim is to be rewarded. I don't think we have the bandwidth to add that kind of layer of work to our already jam packed schedule. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 23:13, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

I believe that a guild's formation date is shown when it leads an alliance. Hondo

Regardless, there would still need to be code which harvests the data for every guild in the game every day? hour? and then sends us reports of any guild which hits a birthday so that I can then load up the game and hand change the guilds cape. Or say we tried to automate it. Then what kind of project are we talking about? Any time you try to automate anything it requires a lot of programming and testing and all kinds of other work. I don't know if we really have the bandwidth to make that happen. *shrug* We'll think of something... - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 06:29, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Yes to bad.... Lol... copy birthday present script to guild present script....alter table, replace player name by guild name...alter table replace birthday table by guild present table...alter table to read guild age from guild table...update scheduler to run guild present script...little teasing...:) Thanx Linsey Didis 16:58, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
I don't think giving birthday presents to guilds would be such a nice idea since a LOT of ~4 years-old guilds were founded by people who don't play anymore :/. But I agree with NexceveN: a non-tradable birthday gift for 4 years-old characters would be really awesome!Ysalis 17:12, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Skill Animations mainly Earth skills

there are a few earth skills Ie Sandstrom, Eruption, unsteady ground also a non earth magic skill dust trap, that use animations that are really hard to see. is there a easy way you guys could fix it? on dust trap the animation just needs to be expanded/Enlarged. so you can see where it actually is instead of having to guess. 75.172.46.207 00:53, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

But, it's a trap. A trap isn't much of a trap if you know where it is... :p
What you ask isn't an easy thing to do and I don't even think it's really necessary. We have effects which were made for those skills and passed through an approval process. I think the resources it would take to update the effects would be better spent elsewhere. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 01:31, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
I agree that Eruption can be hard to see in dark areas/against a dark surface, but Sandstorm (swirling clouds, sound effect) and Dust Trap (big columns of dust, the "flash" effect when people take damage from it, the very distinctive sound effect) are pretty visible. Vili User talk:Vili 02:05, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
the problem with dust trap is that the animation isnt the same as the area of effect so on the screen it looks like your not standing in the trap any more but you still get hit with it on the edges. now with unsteady ground in ha on the map fetied river the animation clips though the hills and makes it impossible to see same with the other skills i just named.75.172.46.207 02:48, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
What I would love to see is that Aftershock's animation gets added to Dragon's Stomp and Earthquake. It would add a little well earned OOMPH to the skill. Somehow, it seems more fitting on those skills. 145.94.74.23 22:13, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
i didnt feel like this was completely answered... but another skill that i think needs improvement to show where its hitting is Maelstrom.75.165.102.233 03:01, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
It seems pretty completly answered to me, basically the resources and time needed to make those changes aren't justified by the gain to the community from the extra animations and thus time could be better spent elsewhere working on bigger and more helpful projects. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 03:03, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Well those skills and there lack of correct/Representative of the area of effect animations is rather game braking...75.165.102.233 03:07, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

HoM Request

When you add a minipet, for example, to the HoM shrine, the camera pans across the items displayed in the shrine. This camera angle is great because it really presents the dispayed items well but, it's only available when you add something to a shrine. If it's not too much effort, could this be added as a selectable option when you examine the shrine? It's a lot nicer and smoother than fiddling with zooming in and out trying to view the stuff displayed. 24.188.207.20 19:38, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

I don't know how hard this would be. That is entirely code related so you should either ask Joe or mention it to Regina so she can find out. I don't have time to track down an answer. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 19:51, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Multithreading Code

I know this isn't your Dept, Lin... but you seem like the only person who would even know WHO to ask about this: Who do I ask about the Game Engine's (either GW2 & possibly GW1) use of Multi-Processor or "Multi-Core" tech? To elaborate: Many MMO's later add Multi-CPU support to their code to take a large chunk of the client-side load off of the GPU (graphics card) and it's AMAZINGLY effective on older or slower machines, allowing them to often run at the highest graphic settings allowable (especially on software-driven 3d processing such as DirectX). All I want to know is who to ask the question: "Will this Tech/Code option be available in future ArenaNet games, ...or is it already in place?". Thank you! --ilr 23:54, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Heh, that kind of question is probably only answerable by Patrick Wyatt. Regina might be able to help you get the answer though. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 00:42, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

I might be able to shed a tiny bit of light actually. There is an advertisement up from NCsoft looking for a multi core programmer at ArenaNet. I think we can take that to mean a definite design plan in that direction. -- WarBlade 02:28, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
ArenaNet is 2 feet deep in the April update I don't think that will happen. Maybe later if we are lucky. GW2 should be multi-threaded since well all processors will be that by its release. Dominator Matrix 04:58, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
If not already. Seriously, nobody sells single core CPUs anymore (buying a prebuilt or just parts and hand building) and anything that's single core almost isn't fit for general use and is pretty much hitting the point where they just aren't going to cut it in gaming in general. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 05:07, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) "funny how then my core solo, and pentium 4 at all of our schools then are a "dying" breed :P" You won't see a pentium already in or sold in any new computer any more. Computers can still make it with single cores (as long as your not doing anything demanding) but they are pretty much out in the ways of production and sales. Single cores are a dying breed in the terms of sales and marketing. Try and find a new desktop with a single core, or a company selling one (for DIY assembly or uprades, ect), outside of 3rd party sales run by individuals. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 21:42, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Character section screen

Linsey i asked about this earlier and was wondering if there was any update. to refresh you memory i asked if you could add more sorting options and if one of them, you could select what order your toons were in via drag and drop. i believe your response at the time was you had to ask some one else and i don't know who that was at the time and if i should be posting this on joe's page. sorry if this is on the wrong talk page and please feel free to move it.75.165.120.89 20:40, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Yes, this is a question for Joe. The character selection screen is tricky business. I think it might be one of those things that Joe says runs on voodoo magic. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 00:55, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
Quick question: Do you have a special person just for UI and such or is that something the prgrammers cover, and is there perhaps any artists involvement? Also, I took the initiative and forwarded this question to Joe here. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 00:58, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Four-Leaf Clovers

With the upcoming lucky weekend I'd like to suggest to make a change to the lucky points the Four-Leave Clovers give. As it is now you have a 10% chance to get 4 lucky points per clover. If you manage to get 100 of these things over the weekend you'll get approximately 40 lucky points, that just doesn't make any sense. EyeContact 11:22, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Couldn't agree more. Compare that to the lucky point rate of return for lockpicks and it's just absurd. Heck just one good game on a corner in 9-Rings is better than the 100 clovers. If the lucky output is intentionally that low... why even bother having them give lucky pts at all? -Fuzzy
Why the assumption that something is useless if it can't be used to efficiently grind a title? Sometimes a cute festival item is just a cute festival item. --Mme. Donelle 16:18, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
And they have the added bonus of removing DP party-wide, which is somewhat of a rarity among festival items. I wouldn't consider them pointless. -- User Elveh sig.png Elv 16:20, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
They are only pointless with lucky points - which is the main point of them as rainbow candy canes are relatively easier to get and those give moral, not just removes DP. Clovers, having no morale boost and getting rid of a random amount of lower or greater of DP than the Rainbow CCs/Honey Combs, it is less desired for that purpose and is only brought along for the DP "and some possible Lucky". At least that's my view of it, and I too agree with buffing the points of the clovers with the last November update and all, making Lucky easier but not too easy, boosting the clovers is a way to continue that. Assuming it's not been done already. -- Azazel The Assassin\talk 16:27, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Rainbow CC's give 0.01% of the max sweeth thooth title. Compared to those, each clover should give 250 lucky, or 2500 for each succesful 15% removal. EyeContact 16:43, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

You guys do make good points, but it's Wednesday... had you brought it up a little sooner this would be doable, but right now I don't think it is worth stopping production on the April build to do an emergency build for. Maybe we'll take a look at all the consumables for balance changes at some point, but I don't think we are going to get to that soon (as in before the April build or even before the next content build if that). It would definitely not be a retroactive change (we do not log every time you use a consumable lol), so it's up to you guys if you want to wait on using these cons indefinitely hoping that we will change the points on them or if you want to enjoy them now knowing that months from now maybe the points will change. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 20:00, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Surely someone of your awesome incredibleness could make a teency weency change like this quickly.. no?  ;-)
If it only took me to do that, sure I could do that, but it doesn't. Pushing a build Live takes at least 6 or so people even for something so small and we need at least 3-5 days lead time unless it is an emergency. Emergency's are things like if someone figured out how to crash a server and starts cheating in PvP by using a second computer to crash their opponents. THAT is an emergency. Slightly adjusting the numbers on an event consumable that's a bit underpowered... not as big of a deal. Every one of those people is working really hard right now on more important things. Both John (he who made the item) and I agree that it is underpowered and we would like to change it but there just isn't enough time before the event starts. I'm sorry, but that is just how it is. =/ - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 04:25, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
I figured it was too late for this time, but since you mention it, it would be nice if leaf clovers could give unluck points when they do not give luck points. Also, if this change comes in 2-3 months but we know that it will (probably) come then, we can stash clovers now for use later. Just some ideas. -- Alaris_sig Alaris 13:55, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, but I would not count on it being 2-3 months. I could take longer. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 18:01, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
