why the delete tag? could it possibly be that you misread something on the talk page? :P —ZerphaThe Improver 19:30, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- I saw Backsword remove all the content and leave it blank, so I tagged it - this was before the discussion about how the guy needs a page. Thinking on it now, I shouldn't have tagged it. -- pling 21:15, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- You actually just blindly followed what backsword did? --JonTheMon 21:50, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- I attempted to "fix" something Backsword did (delete instead of remove content), but it was a lapse of judgement in my part - it didn't need deleting. It must be pointed out that Backsword's removal of the redirect was actually correct - sometimes the guy is right, y'know. -- pling 21:53, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Henchman Skill Bar Contest
Hey Pling, could you please take a look here? It's about capital letters and minor letters on this article. You suggested to move the page one, saying that the wiki does not need to follow capitalization. You referred to "Some common nouns are capitalized in-game when used in name labels. In these cases, a redirect from the capitalized term to the lowercase is advised.", right? You were wondering what speaks against the move. I think the first point would be the fact that any official events or contests were considered as proper nouns as well so far. Out of these 21 contests, each of them except for the HSBC still uses capital letters. And all other pages, including the accordant NPCs from the contest, also link to the capitalized version. It's likely the best to delete Henchman Skill Bar Contest and move Henchman skill bar contest back to its old place. —ZerphaThe Improver 12:18, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- I still think lower-case is better - I don't really see how it can be said to be a proper noun, even by our definitions. If the other pages need to be moved to conform to that, then they could be moved too. I don't think it's a problem to link to the redirect - the page shouldn't be moved back just because one has more links than another, and also the pages where the links are don't need to be specifically edited to point to the new location. -- pling 14:36, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- For consistency reasons, one should either move every event and every contest to the minorcase version, or the HSBC should be moved back. And i even consider it to be a proper noun. It's a unique and official contest which was labeled with a certain name by Arenanet. Also see wikipedia's definition. And there seem to be more users that think the same way, or users who prefer having it with capital letters at least. I think it's stupid not to move it back just because you don't consider it to be a propoer noun, because other article could be moved as well, or because they don't need to point to the actual article. I don't want to sound unfriendly by saying this, but i just don't get why this single article can't just be moved back, i see more decisive reasons that speak for the move to the old location rather than against it. —ZerphaThe Improver 10:14, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
- I still disagree with you, but I can't be bothered to argue against it, so go ahead with the move if you wish. -- pling 13:33, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
- i did not intend to urge you to say that, but thanks for your permission to move it. I added the speedy deletion tag with a note about moving the article to that place immediately afterwards. Test Krewe Leaks
I realize that it's too late now since the update is in 2 days and the leak has been up for a few days, but in the future would you mind removing TK leaks like the one above and deleting the histories? It's a pretty serious breach of the NDA we're under and it only hurts our ability to help ANet (and their willingness to share things with us so we can fix them before they hit live) if we keep having major leaks of updates before they go live. If we can get most of the fansite (Teamquitter and guru already are doing this) deleting the leaks as soon as they appear then hopefully we can discourage people from leaking at all. Cheers--TahiriVeila 15:49, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

- I ask because if the purpose is to document the game, and if we have insiders who have credible information about the game and it's historical or future state (look at .dat miners), then there shouldn't be repercussions aside from whatever that individual will face with the other group. I wouldn't put it on a main article page but if it's in a discussion page it should be fine. But again I don't know how NDAs work. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 01:15, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- I dunno about legal stuff, but the major effect of keeping leaks is to decrease the amount and quality of player input which Anet will allow in the future. - Et tu, Felix? Reading comp ftw. --67.240.88.57 01:48, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- In your infinite wisdom, Felix, have you ever considered that maybe ANet has to expend a shitload of time and energy running around stamping out NDA leaks, when they could be spending that on actual content? If you think I'm joking, ask one of them - not only do they have to make sure the leaks themselves are gone, but they have to try to track down who leaked it, figure out if they're still in the krewe, if anyone is re-posting the leak elsewhere on wiki/guru, and then they have meetings on the issue to make sure all the bases are covered. I for one would prefer they spend all that time on War in Kryta stuff (or hell, even balance), but that's just me. -Auron 02:10, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict) I'm not even on the TK but I could tell it was a skape-puppet the instant they announced it. Legally speaking, they can forcibly remove the history of a leak/ disclosure here b/c they freaking own it, but they really can't do it anywhere else. So if they wanna do it, they'll do it. Any sysops who do it FOR them though are just sucking up to the purveyors of a sham so there goes the whole quid-pro-quo of Beta Testing argument. --ilr 02:16, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- Or they're possibly saving ANet time spent stamping out the leak for reasons I already posted. But nah, that can't be it, they must be sucking up to ANet. There can't possibly be any legitimate reasons for deleting leaks from the wiki.
- As a side note, do you ever hit "show preview" and see just how whacked out your posts sound? -Auron 02:23, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict) x2 So you're saying ArenaNet has their game designers working public relations, huh? I guess it wouldn't surprise me, but I tend to believe that employees do still remotely adhere to their actual duties. They don't have the power to "make sure the leaks are gone," because last I heard ArenaNet doesn't control the internet. As for tracking down the NDA breaker... come on. They don't even try to track down botters within the closed environment of their own game. They are not going to employ a cyber-forensics team to find out which butthurt tker leaked their overdue update. That is a waste of resources so tremendous, even ArenaNet wouldn't bother. They might check out the proxy that the leak was posted from, spend a few minutes tracing it, and give up. elix Omni 02:26, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe you're confused about how the Live Team works. You're suffering under the delusion that they have an army of people working on GW1, so developers can develop, coders can code, designers can design, and balancers can balance. Reality check - that's not the case. Linsey is heading a small team of people to keep GW on life support, and provide as many small content updates as they can with their resources. When people are making bot programs and leaking info all over the web, you can bet your ass it's detracting from the Live Team's ability to make actual content. -Auron 03:08, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, I see. Thank you for informing me. If they actually have any intentions to react to leaks, why did the giant obvious mesmer leak stay on the talk page for several days until a sysop impartially decided to remove it? All Anet staff members have sysop tools, you know. elix Omni 03:14, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- It's also highly likely that they don't have the time to waste scouring through talk pages for possible NDA breaches when they need to do other things like maintain the game. --Lania Elderfire 04:24, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- Because it's ANet? I'm not a fanboi, I'm just pointing out reality since your posts don't seem to factor it in. ANet is still ANet, and like Lania said, they probably had no idea it was there. I'm honestly not sure if ANet employees have ever used sysop tools on this wiki (even though they have them), so it's a little odd to expect them to use it here. ANet doesn't have mod powers in places like guru, however, but the information is still expected to be removed in a timely fashion, even if the guru mod is not under NDA. It's common courtesy. -Auron 05:39, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Why are we even having leak problems? Because Arenanet decided to form this secret society of select people who are allowed to see and discuss intended changes. Can't you let everyone know what is going on, while allowing the TK to discuss/suggest/etc in private? You would've gotten tons more feedback (and feedback is your goal so you stop making mistakes while you're busy with other things, correct?) with the TK acting as the sift. Did NCSoft lose stock or something? Cause I mean we all know that's what it's all about, right? What are the "bases" and why do they need to be covered? Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 04:26, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- We're not having "leak problems" because they selected a select few people. We had one leak (that I know of) right when it started (which wasn't really a surprise), and none since then until this week (again, none that I know of). That's, what, 5 and a half months? That's a longer leak-free period than most women have in their entire life.
- It's not the test krewe's job to "sift through" the feedback on wiki, but some of us do it anyway. They don't have many people internally working on GW1, so they have almost no ability to test stuff, especially when they make huge changes. Having a team of (200+?) people makes it a lot easier to find bugs or other mistakes before they embarrass themselves. It has nothing to do with having a secret group of people getting secret information. There are many reasons game companies keep their updates private. For most people, I'm sure the surprise of an unexpected change is much more exciting when, you know, it's a surprise. ~Shard 04:53, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- аІiсәѕνәи: "You would've gotten tons more feedback" – Are you seriously believing that tons of more feedback will make the feedback any better? Did you ever tried to catch up with multiple balancing discussions in forums? Where threads explode to gigants with lots of pages within hours? And with every idiot coming up with another non-issue, or just flaming with no end? Fact is, it is not possible to read all those forums while still having time to do regular work. Instead you spend multiple hours on reading a thread with 50 pages where only 3 pages were actually valuable.
- Now for a selected group of test players, this is not much more different. Of course that group can produce a lot of talk on their own, but it is incontrovertibly less than on public forums. But in the same way that small group is able to produce discussions of a much higher quality, which helps more than anything.
- The TK's job is not to filter out community feedback, it is there to discuss things based on each individual's own experience and knowledge and to test things – yes, they do test those suggestions, while everybody else would just comment on them based on their biased ideas. poke | talk 05:26, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- Exactly, it's our job to test Anet's proposals and to give them feedback on what's wrong with what they intend to do to the game. It's absolutely lolzy to see people commenting on the TK, decrying it as a puppet organization that's absolutely useless when they have no idea what the test krewe does or how they interact with the live team xD --TahiriVeila 05:35, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- If other fansites speedily remove NDA-bound/Test Krewe leaks, allowing them to stay on the wiki invites more people to comment - considering the nature of the leaks (i.e. skill balance) and the nature of those people, it's likely the leaks will be more of a negative than a positive. Also, we generally wait for confirmed information before documenting it, so leaks from the TK don't help us (even if the leaker was reputable and telling the truth, the leak contents itself aren't 100% confirmed).
- I seem to recall something on GWiki similar to this before Nightfall was released - PanSola deleted a page with info from the NDA-bound alpha and drama happened. Of course, different situations, different people, etcetc. -- pling 10:14, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- "For most people, I'm sure the surprise of an unexpected change is much more exciting when, you know, it's a surprise." Except that most players aren't actually active on forums or wikis. Only a small percentage of players in-game keep abreast of legit information. I'd suspect that a large chunk of players who do use these resources regularly are more interested in how their play experience will be changing, especially in relation to PvP, than a feeling of surprise. It's a baseless assumption, but no more so than the reverse. In any case, I'm still fairly unclear on how my seeing three different major leaks (one from Anet) has negatively impacted the ability of the Test Krewe to provide feedback, or Anet to listen. (Referencing the linked threads on QQ). Trust is the only one I'd buy, but as alice noted, if the balancing process weren't black-boxed, it wouldn't even be relevant. - As long as Test Krewe Leaks are a threat to the Krewe's egos, the continuation of the Test Krewe and their chances of becoming members of a GW2 closed beta, you will not win an argument in favour of keeping leaks on the wiki. 114.78.35.145 14:40, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- It's Anet's IP, and if they want to keep it secret, it's their choice. I'm not arguing about that. Every community has the option to respect Anet's decision and handle leaks accordingly. What I take issue with are the bizarre logical leaps. It's one thing to accept that having parts of the balancing process exposed might be damaging. It's another to simply hold it as true. Were the leaks alleged to have been responsible for killing past balance efforts drowning people? If not, it sounds like there are a lot more factors at play in there. MA Anathe 14:58, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- I really don't understand this "ArenaNet is a petulant child" viewpoint. It seems to be the majority opinion here that ArenaNet will, upon discovering a leak, react by punishing the player base by restricting the test krewe, becoming more obtuse and impenetrable, or even canceling the update, despite absolutely no precedent or evidence. I happen to think it is just as likely, if not more so, that they will see how frustrated the players are, realize they're fucking up again, and take steps toward greater transparency and communication so that such leaks are not only discouraged, but unnecessary. This would be a major pr victory for them. Now, I think the response to that will be "ya but anet wont do that cuz thier bad lloololol." But if you hold the company in such contempt, why do you care? elix Omni 16:21, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I saw you are part of the Helpers program, and I've got a question. I'm designing my User page, and I've got an announcement division near the top and want to put a division next to it with the date in it. Only problem is I can't figure out how to not make it either go off to one side and have huge block of nothing in the middle or just plain gone. Any ideas? well, i think i know how 2 do that for you, ill take a swing at it, pretty sure its just nestling tables, see the metawiki tables article if u want more info. --The Scythe Has Fallen Ω|Ω talk Ω|Ω 00:33, 27 May 2010 (UTC)- nvm... i epic phailed... /facepalm of shame... --The Scythe Has Fallen Ω|Ω talk Ω|Ω 00:38, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- I guess the most easiest way to solve that would be putting both inside of a table, to distribute the width correctly. poke | talk 18:28, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

hi, pling
thank you so much for the help! i see what you did when you helped with my archive so now i will keep in mind how to create additional ones in the future.
i do have one question though. why is my signature retagged for deletion? :( |Cynn's Thong| 11:16, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- Its previous versions are still copyvios and need to be deleted. I'm not sure if your current one is even ok, but I'll leave that for others to determine. -- pling 11:31, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
me
i finally re-did my talk page, now go rip it up w/ how 'bad' it is --The Scythe Has Fallen 20:04, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
- It looks better, but I think adding new sections with the + tab is still broken because of the code closing the table at the bottom of the page. -- pling 16:14, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
- try it, it shouldn. Be, considering u can leave a table open, which i did, erm? Just try it we will find out ^__^ --The Scythe Has Fallen 23:05, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
- It doesn't work. Also, if you leave the table open then the navigation boxes on the left become glitched... - Mini Me talk 09:27, 19 June 2010

Do you remember this user's name?
I once remember a user here who had a page filled with a bunch of psychology effects to maybe explain the roots of why people act stupid or such (like one of them was this effect where people lack the ability to assess their own skill level and overestimate their ability as a result. another one was for when people think they have an original thought but it's really from something they had recently seen and didn't notice). Any chance you remember who the user was? There was a whole list of them. They linked to Wikipedia. Previously Unsigned 05:01, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

- They never really blocked me, but they (anyone with admin powers) thought it was funny to take turns booting me every time I logged. that wasn't really why I stopped going on, it just kind of slowly stopped happening. I do miss the talks on there, they were pretty hilarious. I should figure out how to re download all that and make it work again. Maybe I'll go bug Wyn about it. -- Tha Reckoning 23:39, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

- i dont, just today on the guru channel i was attacked with a DDoS by an admin, after i reset my connection (cut off the DDoS) (which took three hours) i was banned, the wiki channel isnt as bad but.... --The Scythe Has Fallen 22:04, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

What happened to the Guild: Isle of Misfits?
I read on Wiki that John Garham in the Wilderness of Bahdza is named after the old Isle of Misfits leader John Graham. So what did ever happen to the Isle of Misfits guild because the link to their page shows nada. And how did this John get so lucky to have Anet use his name for a character? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 98.16.152.202 (talk • contribs) at 06:21, 11 August 2010 (UTC).
- I don't think the guild ever had a page here. ArenaNet often do reference players for various reasons - in this case, it's probably because he was an alpha tester. -- pling 15:21, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

- I'm kind of questioning the source of the NPC actually being named after him, and even if it was, is "John Graham" the guy's actual name, or his in game name, in which case his name refers to some of those other John Graham's. --DANDY ^_^ -- 19:15, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

- Just jumping in, there was once a Guild:Isle of Misfits page, but it was deleted for not completing a guild page cleanup, so the page probably didn't have much there anyways. –alistic 20:46, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
- It had an empty infobox and a note that it was a placeholder, and that was it. It was made by an editor who made many similar placeholder guild pages to try to clear out WantedPages. - Tanetris 01:05, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

User merge
Hey Pling, just curious. I sent a couple of users to look at merging their accounts, but now that I've read the print at the top of the page, and your comments, I may have been wrong. Do we only aim to merge accounts in order to assign old contributions? I was under the impression that the users were merged at a deeper level, and somehow the need to create a redirect from one user page to another would be moot. Any clarifications you could toss my way? G R E E N E R 19:40, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
- The one and only thing user merge does is assign the contributions of the old account to the new account. - Tanetris 19:42, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, merci. I'll avoid pointing people erroneously that way, then. G R E E N E R 19:43, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
