The map picture[edit]
That's a problem that keeps popping up from time to time, it's due to the wiki's crazy server-side image cache. Sometimes when you upload a picture, it'll keep showing the old version for a while (up to an hour or so). It's been mentioned to the ANet IT guys a couple of times, I think, but no solution so far. So there's not much that we can do about it but wait. Cheers! :) --Dirigible 05:37, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- Ahh thanks for the info! I was wondering if it might have been something related to the server cache, as I noticed it uploads over the old image URL; I used to have a similar thing happen on my site. Very frustrating indeed. ^^; --Talonz 05:42, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
User page policy change proposal[edit]
Hi, you've added your comments regarding the current state of GWW:USER. In case you didn't watch the talk page, the draft is currently awaiting review and I personally think it needs more comments or supporters before replacing the old one. Could you take a look? Thanks. -- ab.er.rant 06:29, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Done! --Talonz // 17:21, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Clockwork Scythe[edit]
On the talk page, you mentioned that you got a R9 gold one. Mind telling me where you got it? Did you buy it, or did it drop somewhere in particular? The current article page has no drops listed (yet), and I'm looking to get one at some point. :P -- Ĵĩôřũĵĩ Đēŗāķō.>.cнаt^ 06:02, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- I honestly can't remember. Some chest at the end of a dungeon I completed with my friend that needed it. Wasn't a high-end dungeon or anything either, (IE wasn't Duncan or Frostmaw's). --Talonz // 03:08, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- Someone mentioned Hidesplitter's Chest (Rragar's Menagerie), that's probably it. Maybe a few more dungeons as well. Thanks for the info, if you ever remember what dungeon it was, mind letting me know? :P -- Ĵĩôřũĵĩ Đēŗāķō.>.cнаt^ 03:17, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- Alrighty. --Talonz // 07:13, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

The Stacks in the Realm of Torment or magical obelisks as you call them.[edit]
I know that the block of runes that scroll down is repeated, but are you certain it's simply the same ones flipped around in each line? I'll have to check my observation on the Stacks in the Halls of Chokhin, but I think it's the same case there. Gmr Leon 03:19, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- It's a bit complicated to explain without something visual to point to so I've uploaded the visual aid I made last year when I found that out. Instead of individual runes being flipped around in lines, it's the entire block of runes that gets rotated and flipped. You can the links to see the original screenshot and the edited version. There are runes all over the place in Tyria and other areas, though I'm not sure if any actually mean something. There's some glyph patterns outside of Serenity Temple on some ruins that I remember. They're all over the place. I haven't seen the ones in the Halls of Chokhin in particular. --Talonz // 07:35, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Some of the runes can be translated. It's why I've continually examined these and tried to figure out how one might translate them. The runes that I do mention being translated are on the maps that can be seen out in Diessa Lowlands. The easiest way to see them is to leave from Nolani Academy and go across a wooden bridge. Thanks for responding so quickly, by the way. I looked at your talk page and saw comments dating from a year ago so I didn't know whether or not to expect a response.
- Edit: I just found my old pic examining the runes on the Stacks in the Halls of Chokhin and I see something similar to what you were saying. Here it is: [1]All of the lines I have there are pointing to repeated versions that have been flipped and the lines pointing from blue box to blue box point out how it's the same, but flipped. Hope all of that makes sense. Gmr Leon 19:36, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- I checked out what you said and applied my block theory to it and there's several things that are worth being mentioned. It might help explain all the connections you were seeing in the screenshot you posted. :) From this original image to this edited version I made some changes in color for visibility and divisioned off the blocks of runes. In both the earlier picture I linked to, and the on this one, the "regular" block is the exact same block of runes, even though one is in the Realm of Torment and one is in an elegant building. It appears the pattern of changing the blocks is the same as well, as far as the vertically flipped and rotated 180 degrees. It's also interesting that there seems to be a repeating single row of glyphs that are inconsistent with the 5x6 blocks that repeat.
- What I think about it... It's just a texture that's been reused in different places to add to the atmosphere of whichever zone it's in. It's been rotated around to make it look like three it's really three times as many glyphs as the artist originally made. As far as the "runes" on the map, are those the only documented ones we know to mean something that we know about? I don't think it's too helpful as each symbol very closely resembles the English letter equivalent. My hunch is that the artists get told to "make it look like it means something," and there's not a real system going on that means something. --Talonz // 00:21, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, while those are the only ones that we know to mean something in Tyria, we also know that the characters in Cantha mean something. We were lucky enough to have someone take photographs of a piece of paper on the wall in Anet's building while on a tour with each character, as far as I know, that can be seen in-game and its translation. Very lucky with that, certainly, but the runes on the map were translated by actual examination and comparison by a player.
- I do think I understand what you're trying to say about the Stacks, but as far as I'm concerned it's easier to say it was just a lot of flipping. Now if they can be translated or not is what intrigues me most. Gmr Leon 01:12, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- Do you have a link to where the picture was posted, the picture itself, or a link to a thread discussing runes and their meanings? I recall seeing somewhere a topic in a forum dedicated to identifying all the runes throughout Guild Wars, from the plainly obvious ones on the Tyria map to the runes surrounding the bases of teleport portals. Personally, I don't think the scrolling runes on stacks in Elona are able to be translated; from how they are just a flipped, rotated pattern of the same 5x6 blocks of runes, to how it has no repeated runes or patterns within itself at all. If it meant something, each rune would have to mean a word instead of a character, or something along the lines of that. Sure is interesting to think about though! --Talonz // 03:19, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- Here's a link to the first thread relating to the runes, mind you it's a bit long. [2] And here's the link to a thread containing the Canthan characters. [3] If you don't feel like reading through that, then there's also this: [4] That about covers all Tyrian language research I'm aware of. Gmr Leon 23:47, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks a ton for the link, that's exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for. Interesting with the Canthan characters, I wonder how or if the Guild Wars team had expected us to be able to translate it. Perhaps there's another Rosetta Stone for other languages, but actually hidden in-game and not in some office. :) --Talonz // 01:33, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Shield cutouts[edit]
I keep the original cropped images as bmps also. If you want to do cutouts from those instead of the compressed versions I've uploaded, I can dump you a zip file with those. Jennalee 15:52, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, that would be great! You do very excellent image captures by the way as I'm sure you've heard time and time before. Makes me dwwl inclined to not cutout the ones that are taken in poor lighting and such when since I've gotten familiar to yours.
- If you're able to send weapons and off-hand images as well that would be good too, as I would like to get around to doing them sometime as I tried with this one. Don't feel obligated to gather and send them right away or anything either if you're too busy; building my guild site's occupying most of my time lately so it'll be a week or so until I manage to get back to shield images. --Talonz // 05:22, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- I can't seem to find the "send a PM" button anywhere so is there anyplace you'd like them? Jennalee 13:45, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- In the toolbox on the bottom left there's an "email this user" link where you could send me the address to it if you want to do it privately. If there are a lot of images, and they're bitmaps, it'll be a pretty large file so I don't think it could be easily sent in an email attachment or anything. Rapidshare maybe? Dunno. --Talonz // 20:05, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well, it doesn't seem like you can send an attachment that way anyhow so I guess something like Rapidshare would do. Btw, there is actually a way to get white backgrounds for normal images if you can figure out how to replace a background with a white one in textmod, except I don't actually know how :( - it would save you a lot of work if you want the white backgrounds for everything.
