Skill icons are the visual representations of skills. They are the images displayed for example in the skill bar or in the effects monitor when the effect is active. In most cases, hovering over the icons with the mouse will show the skill description of the selected skill.
Color schemes[edit]
Skill icons are color coded based on the profession the skill is bound to. Common skills tied to a title track also have their own schemes.
- Warrior skills are yellow, gold, and orange.
- Ranger skills are sage, forest, and brown.
- Monk skills are blue, cyan, indigo, and teal.
- Necromancer skills are green, sea-foam, and cyan.
- Mesmer skills are purple, violet, and fuchsia.
- Elementalist skills are red and lilac; with additional color-schemes assigned to their respective attributes. (Glyphs are orange and rust with their own unique design.)
- Assassin skills are magenta, violet, and red.
- Ritualist skills are aqua, teal, and cyan.
- Paragon skills are maroon, gold, and yellow.
- Dervish skills are tan, kahki and cobolt.
- Common skills are grey and bronze.
Overlays[edit]
In addition to the basic icon, various interface elements place overlays with additional information on the icons.
Full overlays[edit]
Recharging skills[edit]
If a skill has a recharge time it will become darkened after activating. While the skill is recharging the icon will slowly be uncovered starting from the top and move clockwise around the icon.
Example |
Meaning
|
|
This skill is recharging and cannot be activated again until fully recharged.
|
Locked skills[edit]
While in maps with PvP (effect), PvE-only skills will have a partially opaque overlay covering the entire icon, designating that they cannot be used while in the area.
Example |
Meaning
|
|
This skill will be unusable while under the PvP effect.
|
Adrenaline skills[edit]
Adrenaline skills use a unique overlay to denote when they can be activated. Before having any strikes of adrenaline the icon will be darkened, but as you gain adrenaline the icon will fill from the bottom to the top with flames. Once you have gained enough adrenaline to activate the skill the overlay will vanish and the icon will look like any other on your skill bar.
Example |
Meaning
|
|
No adrenaline.
|
|
Low amount of adrenaline.
|
|
High amount of adrenaline.
|
|
Adrenaline threshold.

A frame can be placed around the icon. A golden frame is used to indicate elite status. In the effects monitor, all skills get a frame, depending on their skill type, which shows a duration bar at the bottom (if applicable).
Upper right mini icon[edit]
A small icon is used in this corner to indicate certain Skill types. Six different skill types use a special icon in the top right corner of the skill icon to act as a visual aid for the player.
These mini icons are often used in the Health bar too when the effects are applied to the player.
Assassin[edit]
Ritualist[edit]
Upper left mini icon[edit]
If a requirement for a skill isn't met, the skill icon will become grayed out and a special icon will become visible in the top left corner. This may be due to a wrong weapon or because of a lead, offhand or dual attack (or a hex) that has to be applied in order to use the specific skill.
