Skills and availability
Our current skill avaliability info is lacking, especially when it comes to Nightfall, and to some extent Factions. Since most people have played these games for quite some time, we have unlocked a big part of the skills and can no longer provide information about where a skill can be bought before it is unlocked. Is there any possibility ArenaNet has a list of skill availability (what trainers offer a specific skill etc) that you could share with us? As long as we have the raw data, I'm willing to do the work of putting it on wiki in the right articles, and I'm sure I'm not alone. :) - anja 15:36, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hiya Anja! I can do some checking around for you guys to see if I have a good way of getting this data. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 17:08, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks alot! - anja 17:09, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- I haven't forgotten about this, Anja! Everytime I go to sit down and check on it, I get pulled away. Since it involves digging around in a lot of spreadsheets, it's something I need to devote a bit of time to work on. I just wanted to give an update and let you know I haven't ignored your request :) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 02:33, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- I did some ridiculous spreadsheet work on this project the other day, and I think I have a good start for comprehensive lists. I just have to do some sanity checks on the dev servers to make sure that the information is right. Where do you guys want me to put this data when I have it ready? -- Emily Diehl (talk) 19:01, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- Awesome! The best way would be to put it up on talk page/article on wiki somewhere, for example a subpage of Skill trainer, that way everyone can contribute. But that would require you could put it into a readable wiki format of course. If that's too much work, emailing or otherwise uploading the file somewhere is all I can think of.. Then we with too much free time can put it in a wiki format for you ;) - anja 19:08, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- I'm STILL getting to this (I promise)! I have the information almost ready to go in a big spreadsheet, but the past two weeks have been utter madness for me so I haven't been able to go in and verify the data for you guys. Again, an update to promise I didn't forget. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 03:31, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- No worries Emily. This info would be great, it's worth waiting for :) Thanks for taking the time to do this. - anja 14:53, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hi guys! I am going to move this onto my projects page. I would still like to get this information formatted and out to you, but I really haven't had the time to get that ready and double check it to make sure that the data I pulled is correct (it's hard to tell when you're pulling it out of huge spreadsheets with weird formulas). I'll put this where I won't forget it, but where it won't be on my talk page. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 02:38, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
On the GuildWiki, we tried to compile a list of trivia references for all the Inscription names, and it quickly became a quarreling ground ("no, that band didn't write that song" "yes they did, stfu noob"). In order to avoid the same repeating here, could we get a list of each inscription name and what it is a reference to? -Auron 11:02, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- If you're arguing about who wrote what song, why not just go onto Wikipedia and look at the bands Discography. If they wrote the song, it would be on one of their CDs, right?--§ Eloc § 13:57, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think that was a joke :p — Skuld 14:09, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- Doesn't make sense that Auron would joke about GuildWiki's problems with Inscriptions and Trivia.--§ Eloc § 16:05, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- It was simply an example (and yes, my example was a joke). There is no way to know for sure what any of the references are. Hell, even if a band in the past wrote a song yet ArenaNet's reference was to a more recent cover... we'd be wrong to list just the composer. There's no way to know that stuff without asking, and since our goal as a wiki is to be factually accurate, we'd be hurting ourselves by creating and publicizing a false list of trivia. -Auron 16:48, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- If you guys wanted to make the list of inscriptions, I could look over them to confirm the trivia for you but I don't currently have the time to compile a list on my own. The rest of this week is going to be especially crazy for me :) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 18:19, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- What we have so far is here. Thanks in advance :) -Auron 19:38, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- Amusingly Eloc, that's actually what I did when I originally posted most of the songs. Unfortunately there are a lot of songs where it just isn't clear who is covering whom. It would be nice if people had a bit of grace and just listed multiple possibilities, but alas, such is the price of trivia, huh? --Ari 02:49, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- Would probably be best to list all plausible possibility's. And I know how hard it is to find out what song is whose, half the people i know thing that 'born to be alive' is from the village people.
- Or none at all. We're going for factual accuracy, not a list of maybes. -Auron 06:03, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

PvP Maps
I know you've got plenty of other things in queue for renders and whatnot, and I'm not even sure if this is possible, but if it is: would you be able to get high-res aerial/birdseye views of each of the HA and GvG maps? Currently all we really have for the articles on those locations are shots of the U-map (which are generally low-res) or in-game screenshots (which are at a bad angle for pointing out parts of the map). (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 17:51, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Smurf is currently working sometimes on creating maps, and they look really good (example). I'm not sure how well his technique would work on HA maps, as you cannot go their just to explore, but if that works somehow (Smurf is a real pro :P) I think we can get that maps on our own. poke | talk 18:38, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

- Wow, those look awesome! I know that I have access to some styles of overhead maps, but I think we may need to do some cleanup on them before they can get posted. I'll do some checking into this and let you know. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 19:59, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Yet another silly render request
Hey Emily! I know you are incredibly busy, and have been just flooded with requests for stuff, so this is a request that can easily wait until you have some of the more priority things done. In looking at the hero renders I can't help but notice that the sizes of these are all over the place, and the positions of the heroes are not consistent. I would like to ask if it's possible to get them done in more consistent sizes (just fitting them into an even table is a nightmare) and positions. I realize of course that Pyre needs to be much different just because of his overall dimensions. Once again, this is a minor project, so I don't expect it to be done for a long time, but I thought I'd get it on the list (if it isn't already).-- Wynthyst 06:55, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- resizing is not that hard. if you have photoshop. i be you can do it in ms paint....75.165.124.46 09:00, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sure if it was that simple, it'd have been done by now. Perhaps there are certain principles re: renderings. If not, /facepalm – Barinthus 15:36, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I have started to resize some of the more obvious ones, but it doesn't address the positioning issues. -- Wynthyst 17:46, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I have gotten most of them resized as consistently as I could manage, but if you have a chance to do the few that need some position changes, and also poor Goren seems to be missing the fingers off his left hand. Maybe that could also be fixed? -- Wyn 11:50, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- To me it just looks like he is making a fist - -ArcticWind 12:33, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- If you look at the other images he has a complete hand. -- Wyn 12:34, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- There is no need to rezise the originals. The wiki can easily resize an image for a speciofic use. In fact, it's not a good idea to do so ina normal prgram as jpegs are lossy formats and resaving means incresing damage to image quallity. If you just want to remove whitespace, use software that exists for it. Backsword 22:11, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well, they've all been resized to consistent sizes because trying to get them all to display uniformly using the wiki was an obnoxious pain in the butt. If you can tell there has been a quality loss because of it, your eyes are much better than mine.-- Wyn 15:38, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- I can, but likely because I know what to look for, understanding lossy compression to a degree. As a tip, are you aware that you can specifiy images as |XxYpx, rather than just |Ypx? Backsword 05:42, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- I have worked with graphics for many years, and yes I know how lossy compression works, but seriously, for this application, the slight loss of quality caused by resizing is minimal enough to not even be having this discussion. EVERYONE else has had nothing but positive things to say about getting these images resized consistently, and the fact that Emily didn't have to be troubled to do it just is a big plus. -- Wyn 07:11, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, I can re-cap those when I do another batch of renders. Since I took them all at different times, it was hard to remember the exact pose everyone was in. If I do them all again at one time, it shouldn't be an issue. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 18:04, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
Image request
Hey Emily I was wondering if it would be possible to get a slight modification to the ArenaNet logo that appears in the bottom left? All it would be is a change to a transparent background version without the white background similar to how this one is. I never noticed a problem before but one of the recent changes I made to my monobook.css has made it look out of place with that white background. --Kakarot 21:17, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Sure thing! I'll go ahead and replace that with a transparent .png in a little bit. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 19:48, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
the fury actor
Hey Emily, would Image:Banished dream rider actor.jpg apply to The Fury (actor) as well? They seem to be almost identical except for the red aura. I noticed the topic here so I am not sure they are the same. Fall 22:41, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, from what I saw they are using the same model. The Fury just has a boss glow applied to it, which I was having issues capturing in my render program. I'm following up on that issue, so hopefully I can get a render for her (and other bosses) up in the semi-near future. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 22:45, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'd actually prefer using the nonaura'd models for those. Looks better, saves time, and the auras are standarized. One or two example pics for the Bossarticle, should be enough. Backsword 22:17, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Another one of those silly Render requests.
Can you render the shadow army soon. They have some of the coolest armor/look in the game. Specifically the Shadow Ranger/Shadow Warrior model. Located here Only because I'm trying to convince people that a Shadow Ranger tonic would look amazing. Especially with those orange glowing eyes, but its hard to see those on the poor quality of the current uploads. Good job on the abyssal btw. Thanks --Primeval Sentinel Talk 19:24, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

- They also have spikes and blades which aren't present on the White Mantle armour. -- Gordon Ecker 01:14, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, Primeval. I'll bump those up on my render list. Hopefully I'll have some time to do them this week, but we'll have to see how busy it is :) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 18:00, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

A few questions
Hey Emily. A few render-project-related questions for you. First up, could you tell us what model Guardsman Miru used, since he was only around for Day of the Tengu? I would assume it's one of the Canthan guards, but if you could tell us which, that'd be useful.
Second thing, slightly more tangental, any chance you could find out Galen Trask's place of origin? This is mostly for organization's sake (he's currently the only human not on a subpage), but it'd also be interesting trivia to know. The armor feels suggestive of Ascalon to me, but he could just as easily be an Orrian who wasn't around for the Cataclysm or even a particularly far-travelled former corsair.
This third one is no particular rush until we have some more EotN renders up, but could you find out exactly which models Spectators in the Norn Fighting Tournament can use? While it's easy enough to pick out some of them (most of the Norn models seem to be used, and there's at least one Asura and what I'm pretty sure are some Ebon Vanguard) but even in the best screenshots I've managed, it's pretty hard to make out others.
And thanks as always for everything you do around the wiki, from answering questions, to the rendering stuff, to all the maintenance and troubleshooting. It's always appreciated. :) - Tanetris 16:51, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hiya Tanetris! Sure thing....I'll try to get this information for you tomorrow morning :) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 03:13, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
cache
you asked on your journal to be made aware of anything which isn't caching right. Just to draw your attention to this page: Gallery_of_male_elementalist_Istani_armor. On my computer the first picture is the old picture and not your high rendered version. Not sure if thats the kinda errors you wanted made aware of. If not I apologise. -- Salome 03:09, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Salome! This kind of stuff is just what I'm looking for. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 03:16, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- Glad I could be of help. I'm gonna go through all the armour pages anyway, as I'm still working on alot of the missing pictures of dye previews etc... So if i find any more things while im at it, i'll leave a wee message for you here. :) oh and best of luck on that quake tournament thingy you're doing! (oh and in regards to SC4, Taki is the best! Played her ever since Soul Edge came out, she rocks hard!) -- Salome 03:23, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- I have run into the same problems with galleries occasionally lately. I finally just renamed the image.-- Wyn 03:28, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Salome! Doing that would be really helpful because I can just pass the list to the team as a concrete "this isn't working" :) While you're going through, please feel free to let me know if there are any renders that are incorrect so I can add them to the re-cap list. As far as the tourney goes, I'm honestly not sure what people are going to be playing. I'm guessing the big game will be TF2, but honestly...even if it was a game I used to play hardcore, I'm sure I'd still get stomped. I'm so out of practice :) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 03:34, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- this isnt really cache related but it is related to the armour galleries. just to let you know, you must have accidentally forgotten to change masks when capping for this gallery: Gallery_of_male_ranger_Luxon_armor. It's normal Luxon armour but he's wearing a 15k kurzick mask. Aside from those that ive mentioned though, all armour renders are great and working properly (except for the EotN ones but then thats cause you haven't got round to them yet) :). -- Salome 12:55, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Yet another Render request
Hi, I was just wondering if it was possible for you to re-upload the main images for the Eye of the North armor using the default color (Like blue for dervish, purple for ele, yellow ranger, etc) and also have them be the same size/ratio/angle as the non-EotN armor? I ask this because the dark red which they are currently depicted in doesn't do the armors much justice, especially when the un-dyeable parts of the armor are a dark color, and you can't tell them apart. Big example is the Dervish Asuran armor, in which the brown and red almost look the same. Also, the angle/size request was so that for those of us who are photoshop-savvy who want to photoshop different armor pieces together, so that we can actually get a nice graphical representation of the finished product. While I'm here, the program that you use to render the files.. is that something we would be able to do on our own?? Like, is there a third party program out there that can read the armor textures and piece them together? --ChristopherRodrigues 03:20, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Render request: Abyssal
The current Abyssal render has a transparency issue on the left arm. -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 05:21, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
New creature. :o They're kinda hard to get good screenshots of, being hostile and penetrates all defenses and all, so a render might be nice. Also: what program do you use for the rendering? Is it an in-house one or a commercially available one? I have this thing that "steals" the models from in-game and I'm trying to figure out how to render stuff to help you and the others out in my usual half-assed manner, but every time I try directX laughs at me and tells me to get a job. :/ –Jette 01:38, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
