World of Tyria[edit]
Tyria is a fantastic world inhabited by various species: humans, charrs, dwarves, centaurs, tengus, and so many others...
Younger I thought that the world was kind of small, I quickly change my mind as I saw how big it is! I'm quite sure I know a largest part of the world than most other humans, although there are still so many undiscovered regions. For what I know at this point, there are 3 main continents: Tyria, Elona, and Cantha. Here is the last map I have.
Nowadays, the Battle Isles became quite a central point to adventurers accross the world, and meeting point for those who want to compete each others.
Tyria[edit]
Named as the known world, this is where I come from! It was mainly composed of 3 main human kingdoms: Ascalon, Kryta and Orr. This last one disappeared (we'll come back to this story later) when I was young and I never had the chance to see this kingdom, but it was located between the Fire Islands and the Crystal Desert. I am born in the verdoyant country of Ascalon before it turn to current ruins (we'll get back to this story as well). Kryta and Ascalon are separated by the Shiverpeak Mountains. Further to the west, there is the hostile Maguuma Jungle.
Later in my life I discovered the northern regions of Charr Homelands and Far Shiverpeaks.
Elona[edit]
South to the continent I used to know, Elona is quite a arid region. You can reach it by boat through the islands of Istan. In the lands, people are living around the Elona river in Kourna and Vabbi, while Desolation is a great uninhabited desert. Elona was separated from Tyria, centuries ago, but some events linked both lands together and they seems to be a single continent now.
Cantha[edit]
South again there is the Cantha continent. Some believe that human race come from here, but it seems sure that humans lived here around 300 years before some came to Tyria! Today, it seems that the whole continent is covered by the gigantic town of Kaineng, but we can also found further the Echovald Forest and the Jade Sea (a solidified sea!). Next to the lands, the quiet and preserved Shing Jea Island.
The Mists[edit]
Not in this map, there is also the realm of the Mists, like a alternate reality of ours. How to put that, it's like a domain of gods and demons. I discovered that by entering in communion with the gods, it is possible to reach them.
The Gods[edit]
I think it's important to start with the Gods of Tyria that are watching over the world: Dwayna, Balthazar, Melandru, Lyssa, and Grenth. They once lived on the lands, mainly in Orr region, but left Tyria on the Exodus event. We'll talk about this later, but it defines year 0 is our calendar. At this time, there was a sixth god named Abaddon, but now sealed in the Mists.
Some people believe that gods created the world, other believe that they just brought humans on it 1800-2000 years ago.
World history[edit]
Before humans[edit]
I heard some stories about disappeared races, mainly Great Giants and Elder Dragons, that could have existed like 10 000 years ago... Obviously well documented, as you can imagine! During my travels, I could have seen large skeletons that could be remains of these giant, and mainly a gigantic draconic one that can support these theories. It is also said that these dragons are only slumberring, and could awake in great disaster for our world. They could be up to 6 and as (or even more) powerful as gods themselves!
Humans first settlement and Exodus[edit]
Empire of the Dragon[edit]
As said before, humans first lived in Cantha only, with multiple tribes on the coast. 1500 years ago, Kaineng Tah unite them and declare him the first emperor of Cantha. This mark year 0 on their calendar (510 BE for us). 50 years later, his son subdued Kurzick and Luxon clans as well. These 2 vassal clans seems to be fighting each other since then (sounds unsolvable).
Tyria and Elona settlement[edit]
Humans arrived in Tyria (Orr and Ascalon) and in Elona (Istan) in 205 BE. Charrs were chased from Ascalon by human settlements in 100 BE.
Exodus[edit]
In year 1 BE, Abaddon freely spread magic to the races of Tyria, resulting in bloody wars among them. Human King Doric from Ascalon pleaded the gods in Orr to undo it, leading to the Bloodstone creation, broken into 4 pieces (representing 4 'limited' magic schools) and a 5th one to reassemble it.
Abaddon went to war against the other 5 gods, supported by the human nation of the Margonites. They were defeated and sealed in the Mouth of Torment, near the former Crystal Sea where Margonites were ruling. This corrupted the land that turn to the yet known Desolation, while the sea became the Crystal Desert.
Then, the 5 gods decided to leave Tyria in the Exodus event.
After Exodus[edit]
Primeval Kings in Elona[edit]
Primeval Kings ruled over desertic region, starting in Istan in 200 BE and spreading up to the Desolation and Crystal Desert after Exodus. They were wiped out in 452 AE due to the Scarab Plague, an uncontrollable disease that quickly spread across all Elona. Istan was abandonned for more than 60 years. We still don't know what was the cause of this plague and why it disappeared at some point.
Turai Ossa in Elona[edit]
General Palawa Joko was an undead lich lord from the Desolation that invaded Elona in 860 AE. He has been defeated 2 years later by Turai Ossa, leading to reunificaton of Istan, Kourna and Vabbi. Six years later, obsessed by old prophecies, Turai Ossa decided to travel north across Desolation during the Great Pilgrimage, founding Crystal Desert Elonian colony to seek Ascension. At this point, he attacked the Forgotten and died in a battle. Civil wars started as well and no human eventually survived from this colony.
Shiro, Jade Wind and Tengu wars in Cantha[edit]
Shiro Tagachi was a powerful guardsman and commander, trusted by Emperor Angsiyan after defeating Am Fah and Celestial Ministry rebels in 858 and 865 AE. However, he went to murder the emperor during a ceremony in 872 AE, trying to absorb the power of goddess Dwayna. Fortunately, he was stopped and killed by the Assassin Vizu, the Luxon champion Archemorus and the Kurzick champion Viktor. On death, power absorbed by Shiro unleashed into the 'Jade Wind', turning most of the Echovald Forest creatures into stone, and the Jade Sea into solid jade.
This event create a massive flux of refugees toward Kaineng, creating this massive over-population and city expansion. The new young Emperor Hanjai decided to move farmers to Shing Jea Island, on the tengu territory, leading to the Tengu Wars that lasted 191 years.
Guild wars in Tyria[edit]
The 3 main kingdoms of Orr, Ascalon and Kryta were in peace after Exodus and has many trading connections. Multiple guilds were created, initially for economic purpose, but soon grew beyond in influence, toward warfare, religion, social or political concerns. Independents from the kingdoms, they began to hold the real power of human society. Guild Wars started after the eruption of Abaddon's Mouth where the gods tossed the Bloodstones, in 100 AE. Realizing the potential of these artifcat, each guild tried to possess them, embroiling human nations that went to constant fighting, manipulation, and the deaths of many for centuries.
The third war started in 1013 AE and was only ended by human nations collapse, due to Charr invasion in 1070 AE, when my adventures began.
