Searing (prologue)[edit]

Ashford Village.jpg

I, Necromancer Nae Lussia, am born in 1053 AE in Orr. I had no memories of this place as I was raised, with my brother Ritualist Hyu Vestalion, in Ashford near Ascalon City by our father Ranger Kuo Septore, that never talked about our mother. We ended up believing that she died soon after our birth, leading my father to move to Ascalon to flee his grief and sorrow. Since then, I always dreamt about visiting Orr someday... My father took good care of us, but went often north of the wall to fight the Charr, as the great ranger he was. We had some quiet and nice childhood with our friend Mesmer Lunei Cho, until both her and my brother left to Cantha for training, while I decided to stay in Ascalon. I met Elementalist Deanuwi, that quickly became my best friend. She was smart, powerful and a bit mischievous, my perfect reflection! Except when I was fooling around with her, I learnt how to fight and start learning Necromancy with master Verata, while dreaming to join his guild. That's leads us in 1070 AE, while King Adelbern was suspicious about Charr forces on our northen border. I was ready to join forces to push them back at this time.

We were far to imagine the powerful magic conjured by the Charr... They unleashed the Searing, devastating the whole Ascalon nation at once. Forests and fields burnt to ashes, water vanished from river and lakes, landscapes were reshaped, only ruins left from great cities I used to know, and many (oh, so many) of us died, including my father. Me and some survivors had to hide while the Charr marched to Kryta and Orr. In Kryta, I learnt that King Jadon deserted and the nation was saved by Saul D'Alessio and its White Mantle guild, enpowered by some 'new gods that cannot be seen'. In Orr, I was told that Vizier Khilbron, panicking, searched for forbidden magic and unleash the The Cataclysm: this defeat the Charr, for sure, but also anhihilate its whole nation, that crumbled into the seas.

2 years later, in a desolated land of Ascalon, King Adelbern was still holding against the Charr with our remaining forces. Life was harsh but Deanuwi and I bonded with Warrior Yinia, a taciturn but talented warrior that actually went north of the wall before the searing as well, and knew a lot about Charrs and their habits. Soon after we also met Monk Vale, a useful healer that was able to spread joy no matter what, in addition to helpful cures. The 4 of us formed a great patrolling team! The king believed that we can survive and rebuild, and so did we, as young soldiers that just follows order at this time. I didn't know that we will become some of the greatest heroes of Tyria.

Prophecies and Door of Komalie[edit]

Ascalon and the new Charr invasion[edit]

Old Ascalon.jpg

Coming back from a patrol, we learnt that Kryta was offering some help to Ascalon. King Adelbern refused it, maybe suspicious regarding our old enemies, while his son Prince Rurik was willing to accept, but maybe too affected by the loss of is beloved Althea. However there was a more urgent matter: Charrs were too quiet. We went north of the wall and saw a massive gathering of Charr, preparing a new invasion! After a first retreat toward Fort Ranik, we managed to push back their army. We saw a fool yelling about a prophecy, that we should follow the Prince even if he was doomed, and something about unseen enemies... Nonsense, we can clearly see Charrs!

We sneaked north again with Rurik to free many prisoners. We retreated south toward the capital but discovered it under attack and burning. We barely managed to repel Charrs and save the people. A old spirit also talked about a prophecy about the fall of Ascalon, that all was written... We did not pay attention. Rurik tried to convince his father to rebuild our strengths in Kryta but the King seemed too proud to cooperate with another nation. They argued and the King banished Rurik eventually, who decided to gather his followers and move to Kryta anyway. As we fought against the Charrs and saw their strength, we decided to follow him and leave our home country.

Journey across Shiverpeaks[edit]

Northern Shiverpeaks.jpg

We needed to cross the Shiverpeaks Mountains but the timing was terrible, as a dwarf civil war were raging between the xenophobic faction of the Stone Summit and the friendly Deldrimor. Rurik went ahead to meet the Deldrimor's king Jalis Ironhammer ans ask for help. Meanwhile, we lighted the path for our people as we endured terrible snownstorms. Stone Summit tried to block us but we succesfully fought through. Alas, the Prince was killed in the battle by their leader Dagnar.

Few time to mourn though, we were all tired and hungry! Me and my friends made a council to take the lead of the migration. We included Ranger Sana soon after, as she was hopefully able to scout ahead a safe way through the caves out of the mountains, with this strange ability to appear and disappear in the wild in a blink. We finally reached Kryta, hoping for a well-deserved rest. Terrible timing again...

Kryta and the undead plague[edit]

Kryta.jpg

We just found the capital Lion's Arch closed, as the Krytans were facing a strange undead invasion! I noticed that these undeads were strangely wearing some tattered uniforms of Orr. Again, some krytans refered to a prophecy, telling that the last days are near and something about a war against the gods. We helped Krytan to defeat them and the White Mantle grant us asylum in the north of their lands at last, were Captain Greywind led the refugees.

Me and my friends chose to keep on assisting the Krytans against the undeads and managed to secure the Scepter of Orr, a powerful artifact. As a reward, the order named us Knights of the Mantle. We discovered that my old master Verata survived the Searing, but was eager of undead minions knownledge and turned to forbidden practices, so we defeated him and is new cult, but he was not the source of the plague. Then the order gave us the honor to conduct the test of the Chosen, to identify chosen villagers that will study great magic. However, the rebel faction of the Shining Blade kidnapped the new group of Chosen, and we were asked to pursue them inside the Maguuma Jungle.

Maguuma Jungle and the turn against the White Mantle[edit]

Maguuma Jungle.jpg

We hunted these rebels but found ourselves in an ambush. Their leader Evennia, instead of killing us, explained that they were trying to save the Chosen and that the White Mantle was lying about their fate. To prove their good faith, they urged us to head to the bloodstone and witness... And then we saw the White Mantle was murdering the Chosen in cold blood for their Unseen gods!

White Mantle's forces invaded the jungle to slain the Shining Blade. We helped the rebels to defend a strategic base and to stole the Scepter of Orr. Evennia made a deal with Vizier Khilbron (that I thought dead in the Cataclysm!): the scepter in exchange of his help against the White Mantle. However, Shining Blade was betrayed by one of their inner council members. We barely delivered the scepter to Khilbron and escaped with him, while the rebels were scattered by the White Mantle. Khilbron, with the scepter, recovered great power and we even saw him able to control some undeads. He advised us to seek greater power in Crystal Desert, that would allow us to see and face the Unseen.

Crystal Desert and Ascension[edit]

Crystal Desert.jpg

We were welcomed by the Ghostly Hero, that was actually the ghost of Turai Ossa from Elona! He explained us that he once believed to be the Chosen of the prophecy (this again?!?) but failed the ritual of Ascension that could grant the blessings of the Gods. He was now eagered to guide us through and believed that it could bring him redemption. We gathered the Vision Crystal to focus the gaze of the Gods on us, regained possession of the Temple of Ascension and and defeated Forgotten to prove us worthy. Then we succeeded the last test by defeating our doppelganger.

Then we met a Forgotten saying that the dragon Glint, a powerful oracle, was waiting for us. We defeated multiple facets to earn an audience. The dragon told us about the Flameseeker Prophecies we heard about all along: she made it 800 years ago, and it seemed that we were the Chosen that will defeat the Unseen, that were actually Mursaat (oh yeah, the enemies we cannot see and the battle against 'gods', all that started to make sense). So that was why they murdered the chosen krytans, to prevent their fall as written in the prophecy.

Glint teleported us to the Southern Shiverpeaks to rescue what remained from the Shining Blade, still chased by the White Mantle.

Back to Shiverpeaks and victories[edit]

Southern Shiverpeaks region.jpg

By the five gods, I was complaining about northern part, but southern part is even harsher! Hopefully, Deldrimor warmly welcomed us again. During our absence, the White Mantle allied with the Stone Summit and we needed to face both. We first rescue Evennia from the grasp of the White Mantle. We met the Mursaat for the first time and saw that they were possessing some devastating abilities against which we had no defense!

Fortunately, the dwarves had heard about an ancient race, the Seers, that battled Mursaats long ago. They believed that their last representant could infuse our armors to protect us against the deadly power. By doing so, we were able to face the Mursaat and kill the Shining Blade traitor. We finally headed with the dwarves to Thunderhead Keep to free it from Stone Summit, then resist to incoming Mursaats. In this battle, we managed to avenge Rurik by killing Dagnar, and we also eliminated the leader of White Mantle.

The fight was not over yet. Vizier Khilbron re-appeared and said that we must go to the Ring of Fire Islands to find and open the Door of Komalie, to unleash the only weapon that can destroy the Mursaats, as said in the prophecy. Although King Jalis Ironhammer believed that such mission would be suicide, his brother Brechnar accompagnied us throught a portal opened by the Vizier.

Ring of Fire and prophecy fulfillment[edit]

Ring of Fire Islands.jpg

As announced by King Ironhammer, these islands were terribly hostile. Mursaat has set great defenses to prevent anyone to reach the Door of Komalie, especially powerful anti-magic seals that prevent the Vizier to fully help us. Brechnar had to sacrifice himself to lure Mursaats away while we broke down their initial defenses to reach the base of the great volcano. We finally defeated the Mursaat and broke the seals to unlock the Door of Komalie, fulfilling the prophecy. From this door came out dreadful Titans but with his scepter, Khilbron was able to control them. Or was he Khilbron?

May the Gods have mercy on us, Khilbron turned to a powerful Lich Lord and we realized how much he fooled us all along! Of course he was behind the undeads invasion... Stupid me, Orr uniforms, Orr vizier, wasn't it obvious? He his the Flameseeker! Mursaats were actually keeping the Door closed by sacrifying humans to prevent this!

The Lich lord immediately started to summon portals to send Titans across Tyria and we barely managed to stop his evil plan. He went up to reanimate Rurik and ordered him to kill us, but we eventually slayed him on the Bloodstone, causing the closure of the Door once again. We quickly escaped by boat as the volcano was about to erupt.

We did not hear anymore about the undead army, I guessed that they just vanished with the Lich Lord's death.

Epilogue[edit]

Titans defeat[edit]

Securis Phasmatis.jpg

Tyria was saved from Lich Lord, but some Titans escaped on the continent and were still looking to crush human civilization. We defeated their leaders in Shiverpeaks, Kryta, Maguuma Jungle and Ascalon, and eventually destroyed their source of power in northern Ascalon so they did no longer threat Tyria.

Actually, we learnt that Charr met Titans way before this adventure (probably from a volcano north to Ascalon?). A long time ago, Charrs were unified by the Khan-Ur and conquered Ascalon's region, before being chased by human settlements around 100 BE. They were lately divided into 4 main legions. To fight back humans, some Charrs were looking for gods of their own and the Flame Legion, around 870 AE, took control over the other when they discovered Titans and worshiped them as gods. The Charrs received the powerful Cauldron of Cataclysm from the Titans, that they notably used to perform the ritual of the Searing.

Sorrow's Furnace[edit]

Prophecies screenshot 068.jpg

Talking with the Deldrimor, we learnt the source of the dwarfs dissensions. Stone Summit actually claimed a sacred land for Deldrimor and turn it in the vast mines of Sorrow's Furnace to extract metals from the mountain, enslaving the Dredges in the process.

Stone Summit was near to uncover the Tome of the Rubicon and awake the Great Destroyer, who is like the arch-nemesis of their god the Great Dwarf, but we managed to stop them. Dwarves were terribly afraid of this Great Destroyer thing, but we were quite skeptical about its existence and hey, could it be really worst than a whole army of Titans?

Stone Summit also built the Iron Forgeman, a large golem that could replace slaves and be used as a weapon against Deldimor, but we destroyed it and put an end to these mines exploitation.

The Mists[edit]

The Underworld.jpg

After our ascension, we were able to travel to the Mists, realms of the Gods. In here, it seemed to have un-ending battles against evil and demonic forces that we were only able to push back regularly.

A first challenge was accessible in the Tomb of the Primeval Kings, the old dynasty from Elona. A powerful arcanist once opened a portal here, leading to the Hall of Heroes where great heroes were competing against each other. Soon after the Searing, unknown demonic might took control of this place and started slipping into the mortal world, so we regularly had to repel it.

We also defended the Fissure of Woe, the realm of Balthazar (the god of war). His half brother Menzies was trying to usurp him and sending his Shadow Army to fight here.

Finally we defended the Underworld, realm of Grenth (the god of death). We learnt that long ago, Grenth actually overthrown Dhuum, known to be a cruel and unjust god, and imprisoned him in this place. However, Dhuum started to recover his strength, and evil foes spread in this zone, terrifying souls of the recently dead people. We needed to defeat them and face Dhuum to force him back into dormancy.
