Templates
So just wondering how does one go about making a template and how does one know if its even worth being a template? I probably should give more info than that. I have basically bastardized the elite skill page coding and modified it to my own uses to serve as my skill capture page. Now the only other template i could find on this was very awkward to use and not very user friendly or pretty and I think that my adapted page is better than it, however I'm not sure if their is any point in making it a template for others to use and even if there was a point, I'm unsure how to go about making it so. The page can be seen here and your comments would be greatly appreciated. -- Salome 00:16, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hey Salome! You can get basic instructions on creating a Template here. I have also created an Elite skills template here that is fairly easy to use. -- Wynthyst 00:24, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Oh cool wyn, thank you kindly. -- Salome 00:25, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- The best ways of learning template syntax would be to either read it straight from a manual (the help pages on this wiki and Meta) or look at existing templates and modify for yourself. Once you know the simple stuff, it's fairly easy to use it for your own template. -- Brains12 \ Talk 15:10, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Galil
Matey do you know if Galil is alright or not? As not seen him in ages and just a bit worried about him. -- Salome 15:26, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- No, unfortunately he hasn't been on since around April 4. If I remember correctly, he had been a little busy with exams and essays, so perhaps he has taken a wiki-break until they are over. It may be worth asking Helena as she knows him in "real life". -- Brains12 \ Talk 15:33, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Images
Hello Brains12, one or more of the images you have recently uploaded have not been named properly as per our image policy. It says that images that are uploaded for use in the User namespace need to be named in the following format: User <User name> <short description>.<file extention> . For example, User Brains12 fail.jpg .
Reading and filling out the upload form will help you a lot with naming and tagging images, so I recommend you take your time when uploading an image. Thanks. Calor 22:51, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Rude much?
"begging does not constitute "community news""; I was not begging for anything. The donations are for a contest which will be hosted by the [GOD] alliance, the donations are not for me. That was very rude on your part. If you did not agree with it being there, you could have put; "maybe you should wait until the contest is launched", or something to the like. --Shadowphoenix 18:14, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- In any case, if it is done as an in-game activity (even if GWW related), you may want to create a proper CME article instead of using the community news section for it.--Fighterdoken 18:20, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, but it is not going to be a huge event for the entire GW community, it is mostly going to be for GWW users since the submission will be posted here on GWW. That is why I decided not to make CME article for it. --Shadowphoenix 18:22, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

I would think enough users watch your talk page that you don't need to plaster it on the community portal. Even better, contact people ingame if they want to give you stuff. That's what guilds are for.

(Reset indent) To be fair, Shadowphoenix, other community events such as Cinco de Mayo and Oktoberfest have only ever gotten a wiki page with a tag stating the event was a community organized one, so I don't see why the event for [GOD] should get special treatment. Why not just create an event page on the wiki? Kokuou 18:52, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- @ Calor, thats because they where not officially seen as events. Plus no wiki page was needed at the time. @ Brains In need of a wiki break also? @ SP. Lifes life, not everything will get accepted. One More Question
I recently created the articles for the Anguished Souls. I've got two questions about that. 1: was it ok that I used the image of a Spirit of Shelter? I know for a fact they share the same appearence, but I'm wondering if a true authentic picture is needed. Second, I added a bit of info into Anguished Souls, but I'm not sure what it would exactly fall under. right now, its an NPC stub with a list of the spirits, but I'm not sure how to expand on that (and yes, I've read formatting, no luck yet :P). If you can look into those, that'd be nice. I just want to make sure I didnt screw anything up again. -- Wandering Traveler 18:39, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- If it is simply a list of all types of Anguished Souls, make it a disambiguation page with {{disambig}} and a list of the spirits; something like the Seborhin Pest page. If they are not Angushed Souls, but simply related, leave it as an NPC stub for expansion (i.e. as it is now). -- Brains12 \ talk 18:47, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- Makes sense to me. I'll see what I can do with it. Thanks. -- Wandering Traveler 18:51, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
"Why are we letting a couple of words delay this for so long?"
Because of the difficulty of changing anything once it has been committed to policy in our current state, there's a huge impetus to not let something be committed until every last problem is worked out. (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 15:43, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- Draft B has received positive responses and "gogos" from, as I said, everyone but Backsword. When the change is as little as how something is logged, and when it would be extremely rare for something needing logging, it slows down what would be a huge achievement in getting that policy accepted. The outlook on draft E has been apathetic so far, so I can't help thinking that it would be better to implement B and then work out the minute detail that is the logging of a rare occurrence. -- Brains12 \ talk 15:53, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
switch "Orders" with "Order"?
i just tried to rework the article a bit and wanted to add "Orders" as redirect to "Order" afterwards, but you were faster than me :P Yet shouldn't articles use singular forms instead? —ZerphaThe Improver 11:56, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ah sorry, I should have let you finish. If you wanted to rework it as a build-type article, it should be Orders because it usually has to work with a set of them; if it's a descriptive article about what an "Order" is, then it should be Order. I assumed you created the Order page because you weren't aware of the Orders page, seeing as it wasn't moved but created from scratch instead. Sorry :P -- Brains12 \ talk 13:54, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- nah, np. I also didn't know that the Orders page is treated as build - since it does at least currently not seem to be focused on that, and rather on the skill lists. (As i already somewhere noticed once, i'd prefer a "warning message" for build pages. —ZerphaThe Improver 19:11, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

so i herd ur just active in the "muddy" gwguru thread?
After having read the thread i actually rly think this is only a fake. I also noticed that the icon was noticeable popping out of its trade spot...Though this icon really looks like an original-sized version of Smurf's previous little upload as seen at artistans. —ZerphaThe Improver 02:30, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, it may seem credible, yet as you say, it's popping out of the slot -- does that happen with any other items? The image could probably stay on the article until we know for sure that it's a fake. -- Brains12 \ talk 02:34, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- At least they normally don't pop out of the slot as much as the Clay Brick does. They nearly overlap a bit. —ZerphaThe Improver 02:40, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- If you say it's noticeably similar to Smurf's icon, then I would be content with leaving it. Perhaps it's just a fake of the actual icon put into the trade window, and not of the icon itself. -- Brains12 \ talk 02:43, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Layout
I've been trying to get your user info layout to work for me, but the way wiki works with HTML is so ... weird I cant figure anything out!! Arg. How do i change the color of the backgrounds and all the test you wrote??? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by MechanicalMedusa (talk • contribs) at 18:45, 31 May 2008 (UTC).
- Hey there. Well you first need a little knowledge in how wikicode works, including templates, so I suggest you read Help:Editing and go to some of the links at the bottom of that page too.
- My table code comes from User:Brains12/Table - you could copy that to User:MechanicalMedusa/Table and then change the code to suit your needs. The text that I wrote comes from User:Brains12/Userpage2; however, the code there is a little more confusing, and it's pretty redundant as well - what you could do is this: on my main page, User:Brains12, you'll see
|main text={{User:Brains12/Userpage2|main text}}
. To add in text for yourself on your own main userpage, just replace the{{User:Brains12/Userpage2|main text}}
code with whatever you want it to say. So, for example,|main text=Hi, hello.
. - This might be a little confusing, so I would suggest either taking time to learn the various wiki code or experimenting on your own page. -- Brains12 \ talk 20:49, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

- Ok, it was a conflict of unnamed parameters that was the problem (I think). I fixed it at User:Brains12/Sandbox/PvX, so just copy that code into your PvX template and it should work -- just a note though, the parameters for the professions, attributes and attribute values are now named, so you would want to copy the usage notes too. You can see both templates in action at User:Brains12/Sandbox -- yours is the Stuff 1, mine is the Stuff 2. :) -- Brains12 \ talk 21:30, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Omg brains, I suck. Could you make a couple more fixes to the Template?
- I need the extra "If you want solid, the border becomes solid" thing removed.
- A bar that goes across, on the bottom of the skill bar, for Template Code.
- Another bar under that for the Equipment code.
- Also, they must be optional.
- And.. uhh. That's about it.
That would be a great help. →[ »Halogod (talk)« ]← 01:55, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not quite sure what you mean for the first bullet, and it's a little late for me to be looking through all that code (3.40 am :P), so I didn't do that. I added the extra bars, but they don't quite work when I put the optional thingy around it... Eh...
Forgive my curiosity, but I'm just simply confused here. I just saw Raphs block listed here labled as "User Request". I remembered back to a time when another person (topic #4 on the contents list) asked for the same thing, and was denied. This is definitely not my place, and I probably shouldnt be asking.....but why the differences? Why was one accepted while the other declined? I'm sorry, I'm just really confused on this wiki these days... ~ Wandering Traveler 02:59, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- The personal opinions and preferences of admins differ -- I would personally not have a problem with user request blocking (but generally after taking yourself away has failed). I also don't like to counteract other sysops' actions unless absolutely necessary (I don't believe I've reverted one yet). In addition to this, Raph's actions recently have not been very favourable so this swayed my decision a little -- I wouldn't have blocked for those unfavourable reasons alone, but I guess it's win-win if he requests to be blocked as well. -- Brains12 \ talk 03:09, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey, I was just reading where you said "Random redirects shouldn't be set up to appease the Wantedpages, the pages with those bad links on should be changed :)" over on talk:King Bazaah#Redirects, and I'm curious. I checked the links-to on "English" and "GMT" and they're linked from random guild infoboxes. Should anyone be going in there and unlinking these things or is that something that only the people relevant to those guilds should do? (I think there's a policy or general assumption against editing other people's user: pages too, right?)
Oh, one more thing, I was just looking at the mediawiki docs to see if there was any way to make a [[link]] that dosn't trace backlinks for example purposes? Though I suppose you can also use . . . Special:WhatLinksHere/GMT. Thanks! --Star Weaver 17:13, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- Guild pages can be edited for general maintenance, as they are supposed to be for documentation and don't have the same "rules" as user pages do -- if one were to take out the English and GMT links, that would be fine.

Question
I've recently been told that you blocked Oni for some stunt he pulled on Izzy's page.
Since it is 00:07 here, and I can't find any other trace of evidence of this said block, compounded with the fact that I am bored, leads to the conclusion that I should pester you about it.
So... did you really block oni? (not asking for some sort of Explanation here, a simple long answer - short answer section with pictures, power points and a cake would be fine) -- NUKLEAR IIV 21:17, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

what guild advertizement
its a link to build and runs --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Azwildbill (talk).
- First of all, that article was about a location, not about a quest or faction farming -- links, tips and walkthroughs should go on the quest page or the Fast faction farming page. Secondly, the link you added was a link to a guild/personal website, not a documentation website; generally, only those links should go on articles, and not personal webpages.
- Also, you can sign your comments by adding ~~~~ at the end. -- Brains12 \ talk 19:47, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- This edit doesn't really belong there either -- as I said, it's a location article which includes a link to the faction farming article. Information about faction farming should go on the faction farming article, there's no need to include a link to various faction farming quests when the faction farming article has those links. That's the wonder of a wiki - you find one page, follow a link, find yourself with other links and you find out more -- it's not necessary to have that quest article linked unless you're linking it for the purpose to list quests available in that area. -- Brains12 \ talk 19:51, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Dispute
Brains I think that we are in dispute. We need to discuss on how to resolve our issue. As many people (and policy) have suggested I start here. Dominator Matrix 10:37, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- What about starting with what this is about? Because I can't think of situations atm :P poke | talk 10:39, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Well it started with me being reading [2]. Which got me to thinking you needed a Arb com even before discussing, and for no valid reason either. I think what got me 'set off' was the edit you made on my talk page here. I saw it as rather rude, but after time realized you where just being blunt..which is nothing much. I think what got me to think any of this was needed is my belief that sysops should be nice and calm all the time. We all know that can't always be... This is pretty much a conflict of power. I tend to have a short temper towards people with higher amounts of rights then me. (which lead to the rather rude reply I left). So lets talk this over before I start a blog here Dominator Matrix 10:50, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- I appreciate talking to any user I may be in dispute with rather than skipping out three or four steps and going straight to arbitration, so I thank you for that. However, I don't see us in any dispute. My comment to your talk page was not intended to be rude, nor was it intended to be very blunt (a la Auron) -- I saw that you had edited a number of talk pages adding "==...==", which, as I said, may be misinterpreted later if someone else goes to that page without seeing that specific revision of yours. Also, editing other people's comments (e.g. correcting lots of typos on the same page), while it was with good intent, is still not generally accepted. If that came across as blunt, it's probably because I didn't throw in some flowery, I love you, let's go to the park and dance words; it's not necessary to do so either. Nor was my request based upon upon being a sysop -- make sure you understand that. Had I said "I'm gonna block you, delete your pages and protect every page you edit", that would have been as sysop; had I given you a warning, "don't do that or you may find yourself blocked", that would have been as a sysop. There is no conflict of power here, nor was I using my "higher amounts of rights" in that request. As to sysops being nice all the time.. well, I can understand where you're coming from, but as I said, my request was neither rude nor exasperated. I wouldn't see it as a requirement either, but more of a characteristic that some sysops may have (some sysops having that characteristic != every sysop requiring that characteristic). I'll post my thoughts on the arbitration on the relevant page. -- Brains12 \ talk 14:07, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if putting my two cents in here about this is a good thing or a cardinal sin, but either way, here's my two cents. DM made all his edits in good faith, and everything was allowed by policy (AFAIK), although it was bordering violating the whole "don't edit other people's comments" thing. The same applies for the ellipsis headers. I also think Brains responded in good faith, but was simply a little... snappy. Either way, nobody's strictly in the wrong here, although both of you probably didn't make the smartest decisions. In the end, there's no need for any ArbComm, and the best both of you could do is forget about it all and start off with a clean slate. Calor 15:26, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
