Dear brains (lol)
I am trying to make a quest checklist on my page, so I know which quests I did and which ones I didn't, but I don't know how. I tried just copying this, but it looked broken. Can you pleez help me ? I'm trying to make it like this:
Quest | Completed | Comment (quest name) |y| or |n| Blahblah
Thanks in advance and sorry to bug you :P ^^ MadSkillz1o1 18:50, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Templates aren't really my thing, some of these guys could help you there. Although I'm guessing you'd need to adapt the Template:Quest checklist code for yourself (i.e. create your own template in your userspace with only the parameters you need). -- Brains12 \ talk 21:45, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
in-line icon templates
-> BU <- I understand what you mean, but where does it say so? One icon shouldn't clutter a small text imo -- Karasu (talk) 17:03, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure whether there's a guide or something about it, but I do remember a couple of discussions about using icon templates in lists and not within lines. (Although I can't remember where those discussions are.) It's not really about clutter, but about readability - the icons within text sort of take away the natural flow of reading.. or something. I suppose it would help if I could explain it better. It would be like having bullet points in-line, if you get what I mean. Anja is someone who I recall agrees with this, and I think she can explain it better than I can :P. -- Brains12 \ talk 21:12, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
- Icons inline often disrupts the line height and draws unnecessary attention to details instead of the whole text. It also disrupts reading, as Brains says. We disallow big sig icons since they disrupt line height, and I think the same style guidelines should be applied on articles.
- The use of the skill icon template is a bit of a compromise, the icon is the main thing you identify the skill with in many cases. I'm still opposed to using it inline for the reasons above, but there are borderline cases :) - anja 08:35, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- The skill icons are best when at the beginning of the line, like in the game update notes. That way they provide the visual identification of the skill without interrupting the readability of the text. -- Wyn 08:55, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Hello.
I stumbled into a problem. When I was going to check if the in-game f10 redirect link for todays Zaishen Mission (Ruin of Morah) was set up properly, it lead me here. I don't know how to fix it... Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. -Lena™ talk 21:08, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- Fixed. If you need to edit an already-created game link, put the title of the game link in the url and add "?action=edit" in front of it. For example, http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Game_link:Quest_993?action=edit -- Brains12 \ talk 21:24, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Bcrat Elections
Just to double check, is there a contrib requirement to be nominated? All I'm seeing is the requirement to vote, nothing about being nominated. — Jon Lupen 21:09, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- Nope. Vili 点 21:10, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- No, the contribution requirement for voting is mostly only there to prevent easy socking and to help keep demagoguery from playing too large a role in elections. Since a nominee still has to actually win the election, there's no such requirement for nomination. :) (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 04:25, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

We have lots of skill animations uploaded; is there any plan to upload skill sounds? A lot of sounds (Frenzy and Diversion) have very recognizable sounds; knowing these is almost as, if not more, important than knowing their animations.

The new licensing is already in place for the feedback area, so everything we have done in it is already licensed to anet. (Satanael 22:33, 13 August 2009 (UTC))
- Since I originally wrote that message, I needed to be the one to release it under the ArenaNet license. It's like how we can't move comments from a non-Feedback namespace to the Feedback namespace; the original author needs to agree to the license (i.e. post in the Feedback namespace), right? - Like Wyn said, if they're not wiki users they won't find the game updates page anyway : P The wiki already has the information you mentioned (it was the first place that had said information, in fact), and the game updates article isn't for news about the incoming updates. You may want to expand the News page to include that kind of information, or suggest an edit in the main page to let people know when Linsey updates her journal, but just adding the information in a page in which it doesn't belong is not going to work, IMO (and I don't like GWG either, for the records). User merge is installed i see. When is this possible for others as well? Because i thought to change my actual username to J.P. ^^ - J.P.Talk 20:58, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- Since it seems UserMerge works fine, I'm guessing straight away - the consensus seemed to be for leaving merges to reasonable user requests + bureaucrat discretion. I'm fine with merging Jope12 to J.P (do you want J.P. or J.P?). I'll do it in a bit; I'm still sorting out the remnants of my own move at the moment, and just in case there's disagreement to it (though I don't think there would be). --pling 21:12, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- J.P. please, it's my (useless :D) redirect account. I can go through my images on my own thank you. There are only few anyway. - J.P.Talk 21:22, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- There are a couple of concerns I have about the extension that didn't turn up during testing, so I'm going to delay this until tomorrow or thereabouts - hopefully it'll get cleared up by then. --pling 21:50, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- I understand. Since there are all of these errors around, the merge might get f****d up big time. And we don't want that :P - J.P.Talk 21:57, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- What could be the possible problems we might face with this extension? - J.P.Talk 10:40, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
- I was a little concerned about my preferences not syncing across the two wikis, since that could indicate a larger problem (e.g. how the accounts are linked); that's my simpleton view though, Poke has much more detailed/correct info about that :P. The user IDs are the same, so there shouldn't be a problem. I've noticed that the preferences need an edit on the appropriate wiki to update (for example, if I changed my preferences on GWW, I need to make an edit on GW2W for the GW2W preferences to sync). I don't think that's how it worked before, but maybe it's because of the bugs we're seeing on the wiki? I dunno. Also, the number of edits count doesn't take into account the merged contributions, i.e. it only counts the edits made originally by the new account. Poke has an explanation for that.
- Other than that, the extension works fine - contribs are merged properly, histories/logs updated. --pling 11:07, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
- But you still think my account merge isn't a good idea right now? - J.P.Talk 11:27, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
- I would like to wait until the caching and login issues are completely gone again, before doing that again, so we can check if there is a problem with the wiki connection (between GWW and GW2W) or if it's just because of the global issues. However if you want to have your account merged, you have to accept that you won't be able to use the contribution counter that is displayed within the preferences, because that number won't get updated when the contributions are reassigned. poke | talk 18:50, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
- Is it normal behaviour of this extension to not merge the contritubion counters? - J.P.Talk 21:02, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
- You have to take into account that the user databases of GWW and GW2W are linked and as such everything works different. That is also the reason why the renameuser extension doesn't work at all. poke | talk 21:15, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
- I just thought to ask about RenameUser :D I can wait until we find out what's wrong in these extensions ^^ - J.P.Talk 21:19, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
- Have you tested that does the deletion of an account that has been merged into another have any effect? I just wonder, since Mediawiki encourages to delete these accounts.
- By the way, should we take this discussion to somewhere else? User talkpage might not be the best place for this... - J.P.Talk 01:15, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Ok, so I tested the preferences stuff again and got the same results. An edit needs to be made for the relevant prefs to sync. I tested with Brains12 in case it was specifically this account, and I got the same. Then I tested with a completely new account (i.e. one that hadn't been merged or anything) and I again got the same. I don't think that's how it worked before the update, but it seems to be consistent and unrelated to the merged accounts. If you guys can also test this on your own accounts, that would be helpful too. Testing other things like time might also be useful (it could be that it's similar to image caching... maybe?). --pling 13:11, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- You can use my account or my J.P. account if you want. In the name of
scienceWiki! =) - It might help if we would know (or do we?) what kind of effects this extension has on other wikies.
- @Pling: It doesn't bother you if we keep this topic on your talk page? - J.P.Talk 14:31, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- I didn't mean that I wanted to go on your account, I just suggested that you could try testing yourself if you were bored and wanted some mild entertainment. Change your sig, for example, and see what happens on the other wiki. You don't need to, but as you said - science!
- I'm fine with keeping the discussion here; not sure which other page this could go on at the moment, so I'm not fussed about moving it. --pling 15:10, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think this is any breaking news, but when i change my signature in here, it takes effect in GW2W right away.
- But when i change my signature in GW2W, it takes almost 10 minutes to take effect in here.
- I'll do the test few more times. - Jope12Talk 15:37, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, did the test again. This time it took about 2 minutes until changes in here took effect in GW2W.
- Changes in GW2W took effect in here immediately this time.
- Anything else i could test? Or should i do more signature tests? - J.P.Talk 18:45, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- No, that's ok. --pling 19:00, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

- What's his name anyway? Is it serious? Do we get to meet him? What does he do? -- NUKLEAR IIV 22:45, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- This is srs bsns! We're trying to get things working here.
- @Pling:Restart. - J.P.Talk 15:32, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- I know what reboot means, I'm not sure how you can apply it to GW2W. In other words, I don't think so. --pling 15:49, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- I mean that we shut GW2W down, save it as it is now, delete the user database there. Then we just put everything back. I don't know the <beep> about these things and i don't know is it even possible.
- Is there any hope to get these extension work by any chance? Any news? If not, i personaly think we should just dump these. - J.P.Talk 15:54, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think that's possible/feasible, no.
- UserMerge works, but it's been uninstalled (probably unintentionally). --pling 16:50, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
