Guild Wars Wiki talk:Projects/Skill trainers
No Prophecies...[edit]
A little bit more info about this perhaps: I started a similar project a long while ago on GuildWiki. Since they gathered and confirmed all the info on Proph skill trainers before I even joined that wiki it's not recommended to double check it all over again.
It's a different story for Factions though. We never had a similar project or level of commitment for those trainers. The following is based on my personal observations: up to Michiko skill offering is cumulative, but afterwards they're just based on Michiko's list, with only a few exceptions. But since the characters on my main account had lots of skills unlocked I couldn't be 100% certain.
Now, with the trial keys from FilePlanet, I thought it to be a good time to try and get it all confirmed once and for all. Erszebet 12:36, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Indistinguishable Core / Factions skills[edit]
When you start a new character in Factions, you'll unlock certain skills through completing the primary quests. These skills can however be confirmed by traveling back with a character from other campaigns f.i. See table below for skills that're unlocked on Shing Jea Island. After reaching Michiko in Kaineng Center, no more skills are taught through quests afaik.
Warrior | Ranger | Monk | Necromancer |
---|---|---|---|
Mesmer | Elementalist | Assassin | Ritualist |

- Some of these will probably be hard to confirm, since they are gained very early in every campaign. Can you proceed from pre-searing without getting any skills? :P - anja 11:16, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Nah, but this is where Emily Diehl can come in, if / when she gets that spreadsheet ready. Erszebet 13:38, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- It's not possible to leave without any skills. You can leave with just 2 or 3 in each prof. Backsword 17:36, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
Skill trainers revisited[edit]
There seems to be a new opportunity to complete this project, so I dusted off my secondary account again :p The table I posted above represents a list of skills that were already unlocked on my account before I reached the "main land" in Factions - and thus before reaching Michiko (Kaineng). I posted this table on several skill trainers' talk pages, but the wording was poor. The skills in that table can and need to be checked with a fresh account. I've altered the table with some new info I gathered, and will update it on all skill trainer pages where needed. Erszebet (talk) 08:56, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
Reviving project? (Help needed)[edit]
I picked up a new account in the sale last week, and knowing that there are still some skill trainers who don't have their skills listed, I decided I'd like to use that fresh account to do some good for the wiki. However, if I am to be really thorough, I will need some help. As others have pointed out, it is impossible to leave starting areas without unlocking some skills (making it impossible to check whether a skill trainer offers those skills), but having done some research into how the early skills are unlocked, I've concluded that nearly every skill in the game can be checked - just not all on the same account.
For example, a Monk in Prophecies can leave pre-Searing Ascalon having unlocked only Healing Breeze and Banish for the Monk profession. A secondary Monk in Prophecies can leave pre-Searing with Bane Signet and Orison of Healing as their only Monk skills. This means that with two fresh accounts it is possible to verify any Monk skill at any skill trainer in the game. It is similarly possible to verify all skills except for five Assassin skills, four Ritualist skills, four Dervish skills and four Paragon skills, but for every profession two accounts would be needed (except for Ranger, which actually needs three).
So, is there anyone else who has an account with very few (preferably no) unlocked skills who would be willing to help? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Alexis Toran (talk) at 02:11, 07 July 2018 (UTC).
- Sorry guys, signed now. My editing is rusty and it was late at night, bad combination! - Alexis Toran (talk) 18:37, 7 July 2018 (UTC)
- Hmm, I forgot to account for heroes. Turns out necromancer and mesmer also require a third account thanks to the Master of Whispers and Norgu, and Koss makes sure that everyone unlocks Healing Signet. - Alexis Toran (talk) 14:40, 10 July 2018 (UTC)
- Hello there! Noticed your message on my talk page. Well, this certainly has been a 'few' years (almost 11, sheesh :o). Nice to see there're still people playing this game - and showing interest in continuing these 'pet projects'. As you probably noticed by now, these skill trainers are impossible to get 100% verified. Back in the day, we had some support from Emily Diehl for gathering the data - but she left long ago and so no further attempts were made. I'm not sure how relevant this wiki and its projects are nowadays, with the game being this old and all. Nevertheless, I do have an account with very little play time, which I can use to check some trainers on some professions (Necro, Rit, A...). Starting next week I have a little more free time. - Hello! I'm glad to hear that you're interested, if nothing else it will be good to have someone who was involved in the project way back when. Having support from the developers certainly makes sense, I was wondering how Healing Signet could ever have been confirmed. Anyway - is there a good way we can get in contact to discuss further in real time? I have Skype and Discord, and I took the liberty of adding you to my contacts in-game as well. - Alexis Toran (talk) 20:54, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
- Sorry, I'm familiar with Discord and all but don't have a mic. If you see me in-game just contact me and we'll see how that goes. I'm currently "stationed" in Kaineng with both my accounts (main = Factions, alt = Nightfall). I figure, if I can run my alt through all the maps and outposts, I can verify most (or all) Factions trainers. Trainers after Kaineng are mostly copy-pastes off Michiko anyway. Sounds good ? Erszebet (talk) 17:39, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know, and thanks for listing the skills you had unlocked! Unfortunately, for most classes it hasn't cut down the number of accounts needed to check the skills you can't (e.g. still need two accounts to verify both Sever Artery and Frenzy, and three to verify Troll Unguent, Power Shot and Charm/Comfort Animal) - at least according to my preliminary research. I'm curious, though, how did you manage to unlock only five assassin skills, and those exact six ritualist skills? My research suggests that should have been impossible. Are the lists on the Profession Changer page incorrect? - Alexis Toran (talk) 09:44, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah, that table is still incorrect :) It's a bit of a 'mash-up' of unlocked skills on my account + 'default' unlocked skills (quests, prof changer etc). I actually have a lot more Warrior, Ranger... skills unlocked now. To avoid confusion it may be best to just ignore that table, at least for the time being. The Profession Changer page is 99,9999% correct though, don't worry :) Erszebet (talk) 10:40, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
- Honestly I'm relieved that the table is inaccurate. It scares me to think that my research might be wrong! I only have one shot at getting this right, after all. Regarding Discord, by the way, I'm happy just to use it for IMs so you don't need a mic. It'd still probably be faster (and cleaner) than talking here! - Alexis Toran (talk) 11:03, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Job done?[edit]
It took three separate fresh accounts and a lot of babysitting, but I think I've done as complete a job as is possible to do here. I even went back and checked all the Prophecies trainers, because really, that was the easy part anyway. For posterity, here's a list of everything I couldn't do, so if anyone manages to come up with a way to fill in some of the gaps, go right ahead.
